Spent Saturday fishing the Tweed River from Barneys Point all the way up to the Mouth. Took some time to actually find some fish, most of the usual haunts were a bit bare. Eventually found them along the Northern rock wall at the mouth.

Fished soft plastics as per usual and ended up getting multiple hits every cast. Deliberately kept the hook size big and plastics used were all decent size to avoid the undersize bream. There were vast amounts of little bream hanging around and it was difficult to find one of legal size.

Did get a few between 25 and 30 cm but not many.

Tried a range of plastics (not just Berkley for once), in the picture is a Gulp Shrimp. Touchy recommended Zoom Flukes and they were also excellent (lesson learned, always listen to the old fella!).

Bait fishos around me seemed to be having no luck, plastics definitely seem to get the interest of the Bream.

Can only wait for the bigger ones to appear. :)

Hi John,
At least I was not alone in having trouble finding the bream! Usually you see some decent bream hanging around the rock walls and bridges but all I could see at the weekend were a few little fellas. Even on the rock wall they were hanging around in little pockets and not too widespread.

Will be out there again on Friday so hopefully some better quality available (though the Easter crowds might make them a bit shy).

Cheers,

Graeme

Hey
Seems like you did alright there,
Are those Zoom flukes similar to bassminnows? Ive heared a bit about them but not sure if i should just keep using Bassminnows or change over.
Once the colder weather comes in the biger bream should be appearin more often...hopefully.

Nabs,
I am no expert on the difference between flukes and bass minnows. Essentially the flukes appear pretty similar to me to Bass Minnows. I use 3 inch Berkley Drop Shot Minnows as well for Bream. The Zooms seem to have a slightly different action.

All in all I reckon Flukes or Minnows are both good fish catchers. Main thing is to think about what you are doing, have confidence in the plastics (as they do work!) and be careful what jig heads you use. I tend to be fishing lighter and lighter jigs the more I fish plastics.

Hope that helps,

Graeme

hey
thanks graeme,
I have bought a lot of Bassminnows and now i find that im not catching much with them :( ...Im gonna stick with em as they are a very good lure, I just have to keep persisting with em..
Yeh i have also found that I'am fishin much lighter jigheads the more i use them.
