well just got back from darwin this morning damn red eye special is a killer flight .i arrived last sat walked around town and went to the casino now a little bit broker than when i walked in sunday dawned slepy in to 8 am :D had a darwin harbour fishing trip planned for the arfternoon left the harbour at 12.30 for a 4 hr cruise weather got rough the ship was lost oops wrong story sorry ;D we drowned a few baits for a couple of small trevs i then got busted up big time on my own light gear i took with me all in all a nice day on the water nothing worth keeping, monday dawned got picked up at 5 am by chris from river&reef barra fishing charters we had to leave early as we had to go the long way to kakadu due to flooding 4 hr trip instead of 2. we arrived at 9.30 am booked into the hotel headed to the ramp and on water by 10.15 am the river was about 6-7 mtr higher than it should of been due to the moonsoon rain the week before . all we did was learn to throw baitcasters with lures as we had never done that before {we were going good to till one fello forgot to open the reel as he threw out and rod and reel went overboard and lost cost him $350 TO REPLACE. i had one hit and that was all for the day
day 2
big brekkie and off to the ramp at 6-45 due to river being flooded we headed down to the mouth of the sth alligator river 90 klm away 1h30m by boat we trolled brook creek i had a hook up after about 20 mins started taking line of the reel and got to the mangrove's 1 lure and 1 fish gone 10 min later and hit and bang back to the mangroves and lure and fish gone . fish 2 me 0 :'( but thing changed 30 min later bang im on again fish heading heading for the mangroves again by now i have learnt to stick my finger on the braid and and steer the fish with the rod tip out of the mangroves after the smell of burning fresh subsided got the fish to the boat and was netted went 94cm photo session taken and fish released . next it was the turn of frank(dmwt) don,t mess with texas) to be on after a battle that seen frank nearly over the side the fish was landed 102cm he had joined the metre club lucky bugger he was happy as he had come from texas usa to try his luck in the meantime graham had a couple of hook ups and like me lost them to the tree's chris the guide told us this creek all this season the fish had been a min size of 85 to well over a metre. went out to the reef to chase a few jew but they did not play the game we caught 7 golden snapper and about 6 nice cod. back to base a happy lot of fishers we were
day three
had a few good hits but no hook ups then graham got smoked by a huge barra tha he and the guide just could not turn and hour or so later i hook up again onto a monster fought hard got it to the boat and into the net what we could get in the net this thing was huge guide is lifting it into the boat and it gave 1 last thrash threw the hooks and fell from the net back into the water the guide was cursing himself this fish was a monster head and shoulders were flat out getting into the net that is how it came out guide reckons it was over the 120cm mark easerly but i guess we will not know for sure now no more fish for the day guide is cursing himself and was a bit down about loosing the fish but as i said to him at the end of the day it was only a fish and thats what fishing is about win some lose some
day 4
another quite day i had a hook up towards the end of the day came out the water and threw the lure bugger again it also saw a tropical storm hit us late in the day those rain drops were like 10 cent peices and felt like some one was jabbing you in the face with needles at 60klm on the way home to the ramp
day 5
we launched and went to fish the rookerie would not be surprised to find out i have now got bird flu that may birds in the tree's every so often you would here splash hen snap snap croc chewing the bird we hooked up 1 barra 88cm caught by( dmwt frank)and a few cat fish, flicked a few lures on the way back to the ramp but nothing caught had a great trip met some great people and had a great time even if the fishing was a bit quite due to the late flooding always next year
