Tried the backwaters of lake currimundi today. I'd taken a walk around the area yesterday afternoon and spotted a few mullet and some snub-nosed gar, thought I might try and boost the bait supplies. Headed there this morning on high tide with a bag of bread. Walking along the pathway and I saw some bream hanging around under a snag. Threw some bread in, got them feeding and eventually hooked up to a small one. There weren't many of legal size among them, but after hooking the first they all went into hiding again and I moved on. This happened plenty of times and everywhere I went I was harassed by small bream and I couldn't find a gar for love or money. The mullet were swimming straight past the bread, totally uninterested. In the end, a few hours saw me catch a few bream but it was exciting fishing trying to stay out of sight while casting into snags. Low tide might be better for the mullet, if they will actaully eat the bread.

yeah,, i know what you mean joel,,,, my work is only a cast and a half away and i've gone for a walk or two myself and seen heaps trying but gettin hammered by bream,,, i'm told the creek that runs through currimundi behind the toyota dealership isnt to bad for gar/mullet,, a few of the guys who work there occassionally throw a rod in after work and come up tricks,, but a cast net might even up the odds a bit though,,,,,,,,

Choppa,
The creek behind that one was where I was fishing, near sunjewel street. I saw plenty of mullet and gar the day before but I just didn't even get the chance at any today. Might try again tomorrow, let me know if you're going to throw a line in there anytime, might be able to join you.

Tried again this morning. Started off at the little creek behind sunshine toyota. Definitely plenty of poddy mullet but nothing worth throwing a hook at. Found some kids wallet near the water, which I later returned (my good deed done for the day). Then tried round the other side of the Ahern bridge from off the wooden bridge near the inlet which runs into the private proprety. Caught a few smallish bream on bread before I moved on. Around towards the bridge off Sunjewel St I had more luck, scoring a half a dozen snub-nosed gar and even a bream on the gar rig, after i cast the float into the darker water. The system looks quite healthy with all those little fish swimming through, and there's obviously some bigger fish in there, as there were some baitfish getting nailed occasionally on the other side of the river. Will have to try that side in the future, the drop to the water is very steep as the current has undercut that side of the creek much more. Certainly looks like a good spot for Jacks and I have caught trevally in there before. Overall a good day fishing and plenty of places left to explore.
