hi all
well we had an early start on good friday, had the boat on the water at 4.15 at wynnum, and headed straight out to harry's arti. drifted baits and SP's, with the only success being a squire about 28cm on SP. didn't notice anything being caught on any of the other boats that lined the reef, so we headed off towards the bar in search of new ground.
we came across some very rough and promising looking ground, with anly a few boats after 1 drift and a few good hits, we droped anchor and began dropping baits down on undersized sinkers. alot of undersized fish were caught before a floating pillie took off. after a short 10min fight, our first eva legal fish was boated. a nice sized schoolie.
many boats had now started to find our new spot and with sheer luck began pulling in some very nice sized squire. 1 boat next to us boated 3 very nice specimens on SP's, and a boat behind us that seemed to be pulling in a fish every 5-10mins. many didn't look legal, however they were all thrown straight into their esky (why isn't the fisheries ever out doing their job).
just as the tide started we slow, we made a quick move in preparation for the turn of the tide, and the old man managed to hooked upto his first legal quire on bait going at 42cm. as the saying goes, no run no fun. it was dead for the next hour, then after the turned to the run out, the action still didn't pick up so we headed off to attempt for some whiting on the banks, without any success.
i will later drop the pictures in of our schoolie and squire.
it makes me really frustrated when every boat around us is landing legal fish, using the same baits and techniques we were (well appear to be), yet we still barely caught anything legal.
just a note to everyone out there. IF YOU CONTINUE TO KEEP UDERSIZED FISH, YOU ARE DIMINISHING THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF THE FISH FOR EVERYONE ELSE, and it is ILLEGAL, i hope you get caught!! >:( >:(
regards
Josh
