Went over to Myora for Easter for a couple of days R&R with the family. The general aim was to drop a few pots and pump some Yabbies so my Girls could attack the local Whiting stocks and I could bait lines and remove any spiky fish for them. We went over to our trusty Yabbie banks only to find them completely devoid of any Yabbie holes :o

What next? No bait on board so on with a couple of 1/16 jig heads and half a Gulp sandworn. Bang :o instant hookup on a variety of undersize Sweeties, Squire and even a handfull of Divers. All good fun and a new softy target species.

Later in the day I tried for a lizard on the bottom of the tide but ended up with a huge Squid on a Gulp Minnow. Pulled out the jig and scored two more.

We caught a lot more quality Whiting over the next day or two on Squid but those first few on softies were the highlight of the weekend.

MMM Sandies, Calamari and Whiting fillets. A pretty good feed there without too much effort.

Cheers

Should have stopped at your place for a feed and drink mate, nothing better then fresh squidand sandies.
Remember where you got them squid mate for targeting a nice jew, sooooon.
Never pumped yabbies over there, you near the light or over Dialba way or the oyster hut.

Shane,
You could say that I got the Sandies on the results of SP's ie Squire frames caught off Scarborough.

Webby,
The banks we get the Yabbies off is the one between Myora and the Reef Hole. It has never failed in 20 years. The Whiting were in the Reef Hole and the Squid just up from the Hut right on the edge. They were all good sized Squid. It's getting close to that time of year to give some of those Squid an overnight swim around there.

Ok guys i have'nt targeted whiting yet on sp's,how do you rig them, hook all the way through a small piece or lets say you have a 2" piece do you have the hook come out 3/4 the way down?

I just cut a 6" Sandworm in 1/2 and threaded 1/2 of it of it on a small jig. I will try a combo of a 6' for the body and a bit of 4" for a tail next
