Hello Ausfishers,

I headed out from the Cleveland Pt/Raby Bay ramp at 5:00 AM - quite a few were on the water already. #Tried a few spots along the reef just north of Raby Bay - nothing but small squire.

Eventually I headed up to Wello Point, anchoring about 100m south of the leads, and first cast I got a 31 cm parrot. #Unfortunately that was it - back to small squire and sweetlip. #Eventually got a good sized sole - never got one of them along the reef before!

As the sun got higher, things went quiet, so I pulled the anchor and headed home.

Best bait this morning was peeled prawns - $4 from Coles was more than enough. #I tried SPs, but no luck.

I also tried squid jigs at each spot - nothing doing. #Does anyone have any reports of squid yet??

Good fishin',

Mike

Nice looking parrot mate, always amazed by the colous of these things straight out of the water, is that a flounder underneath him on the plate?

Yes - at least it's what I always called a sole - same thing as a flounder, I think.

Thats a good looking fish Mike.
The conditions around Wello this morning were nothing less then spectacular.
We have been picking up a few Sole around the Wellow reefs on plastics
lately as well.

Well done on your catch.

Beautiful Parrot well done! You don't need to catch anything else when you get a good one like that, there at the top of my table fish list with pearlys, swordfish and coral trout. Gunna have a go for squid off the jettys at Reddy tonight, on the high tide if the wind drops off.

Mike im pretty sure that is a purple tuskfish and not a parrot fish #[smiley=thumbsup.gif] #

(someone please correct me if i am wrong)

Grass tuskfish (purple tuskfish) Legal size 30cm
Choerodon cephalotes

Purple body colouration. Greenish head carries a bright blue "helmet" crossed with fine yellow lines. Chin is creamy white with curved blue lines. Blue marks on each side of scales form irregular wavy vertical lines on body. White blotch above pectoral fin.

I could be out of line here being new to this?
Tim you are more then likely correct in your identifection of the Choerodon Cephalotes? (Didn't do to well at Latin at school). But i've been fishing in Brissie and SEQ all my life and we call any tuskfish or wrasse a parrot it's alot easier. But yeah i think the Venus Tuskfish is the true "Parrot". Thanks for the info but see you on the water.
