Well another long weekend and another trip down to airlie beach. With the southeaster blowing, venturing too far was not an option. Instead we decided to stay close to the marina and try our luck with some lovely live bait.

Sometimes though, it isn't the fish you catch but the scenery ..... and it was certainly a very nice sunrise, given the crappy conditions. (see photo)

The morning did not produce too much - only a decent queenfish (quite the acrobat) and a smallish cod....

That afternoon it was some more live baits in the and the trevally were playing dirty. Its amazing how productive this place can be on sunset - it certainly has all the bait and structure for the right kind of fish. In just one hour we boated 5 trevally and had a bag of fun as cruise boats coming in from a day at the reef cheered us on ..... thoroughly enjoyable.

Does anyone want to sponsor me to live and fish down here ???

Nice haul Mate.

You've got me motivated for a trip up there this weekend. Do you know any good land based spots????

Cheers
Matt

Yep sure ..... if you walk out to the end of the walls at the entrance to Abel Point Marina, you'll have as good a chance as any at scoring some nice fish. I have watched people score trevally, queenfish, cod and the odd barra off that wall. catch yourself some nice live herring from the boat ramp at the marina and your all set..... ealry morning and late afternoon are the go. There is no tide run to speak of. Best of luck. :)
