Well with the look of the tides and a few public holidays I decided to take some time off and fish hard for a few days over Easter. Needless to say, the fish were scarce around the Townsville creeks. I tried Bluewater Creek, Bohle and Pallaranda but zilch to speak of. Afternoon tides, morning tides, rising, falling the whole lot.
I decided to give the breakwater at the casino and crack with the hope of a barra lurking along the ledge. After gathering enough live bait for a fish I loaded op the 8 and 10kg outfits with a couple of nice mullet.
Kicking back reading the bully and enjoying an ice coffee life was pretty good. After a vicious hit and boil on the surface I realised a large barra had eluded me, especially when I retreived a scaled and rather scared looking mullet.
With that thought ringing in my head I was taken by surprise when my 10kg outfit was hit and this then led to me jumping up and down the rock ledge trying to keep a very determined fish out of it's home. With a thumblock on the spool and a bit of luck I managed to drag the beast out of the rocks. Then the fun began as I caught a glimpse of it and realised the pressure was on to net this myself.
One good net shot and she was all mine. My PB Fingermark at 62cm and 8lb cleaned.
They say it only takes one good fish to make a trip well it only took this fish to make 4 trips worthwhile.
