Pine River Flat head on SP's

Put the tinie in at 5.30am this morning at the Petrie bridge boat ramp determined not to touch the bait I bought with me.After about 50 casts into some fallen trees I got this nice 45cm Flat head.Another hour or so
cast and retrieve over about 3 klms of bank I got onto what I thought was something quite small as it didnt initialy put up much of a fight, turned out to be approx 40 cm Treva that put on a great fight and took about 5 minutes to get to the boat.This is where the problem started !!No landing net!!so I decided to try and lift him into the boat resulting in a broken line and 1 lost Treva.It was fun though as I am relativley new to fishing with SP's.Both were caught on 3"berkley minnow grubs in watermelon.

I am still fishing with an elcheapo combo and after talking to some local bait & tackle guys I can definatley see the benifits of upgrading.I am thinking of a Strudwick sicstick or Dropshot any ideas?

Too bad about the trevally, but good on ya for catchin em on the SPs. It feels great when you get the fish on the SP and not on bait..
For the rod i would reccomend a dropshot, they are definately worth the price and are a great rod.. What reel were you thinking of putting on it?

My next rod will be a dropshot, and I'm hoping to put a small Daiwa reel on it, not sure what model yet, but I believe the daiwa's to be better for braid than the shimanos in that they handle the salt water better and also don't cause as many knots when using light weights.

Go the T curve 3-5kg, 7 foot with a Stradic or Symetre, the symetre offers more of a high speed retrieve and the stradic is just so smooth!

Good to see you caught some fish though.
