Fished ther weekend including Friday. Howling winds and almost persistant rain. A bit miserable and the fish were off the bite. Got hammered by something toooo big that took a large whole mullet (I think the resident shark)......all in all caught undersized fish only. about 10 grunter, 2 small baby barra, catfish and wife dropped what looked like a decent sized fingermark. There is always next time. Tides were very high and the flow was very strong.
Happy fishing

That must have been a bit of an anti-climax Krazi - especially with all of us shooting our mouths off about how good the fishing is off both jetties.
Don't read my post of the 5/10/06 - you won't be happy.

PS Its been nearly 2 years since I last caught a fish there so don't get your hopes up. But I nearly always get a run or two - usually from little critters but its a good spot to de-stress after work with beer in hand.

Krazi-kev,
where there any tarpon about? I have always found heaps of them around that jetty! When the table fishing gets slow (not all that often), we normally fish for sport!

Hi 3rd degree
One guy got a huge run at night and lost all his line (50lb braid)
The only other fish caught were undersized grunter. The locals were saying that things were pretty quiet. Even whole (fresh)squids were not being looked at.
On a calmer day things could get better. It's only an hour and a half's drive from townsville so when conditions improve.........I will be there. The flows were very strong and huge logs were flowing around and some people lost gear due to big logs and sticks in the water.
I tried Dungeness jetty after collecting bait around the boat ramp. Prawns were being taken by grunter. Still nothing for the frying pan
Tarpon are no good to eat but catching them would have been good fun
happy fishing
