Hi All,

Well you should be getting the drift of things now, Cheech gave me a call Friday night and said he a small window of opportunity Sat night :-?, depart White Island at 3pm and last baits at 6:30pm sharp :-X ::). This is a bit unusual for us as we would normally fish till late but I was not going to say no, and as chance had it Snorky (soon to ausfish member) was available for the trip. Snork had seen the results from the last mission and was keen to have a go as he was and I say was a bay snapper virgin. :o

So the usual goes, get to our spot with 587,965 other boats :-X ::) all hanging around but we got in a good position and started the procedure for acquiring some scales. Started slow and as all the secrete ingredients started to gel it wasn’t long before we had a fantastic bite session. ;D

We all got amongst the squire been 36cm -45cm, and it was fast and furious, few good fish where lost to bust offs :(, most probably snapper and we had a lot of boats driving thru, over and around our drift line, >:( >:(which did not help and brought some colorful language from those catching the fish. ::)

As closing time approached it wasn’t hard to go as we had nearly bagged out, had a great feed and was home by 7:30pm with a great tale of the one that made it in the eski which went a bit like this….

Bloody hell Chong will you stop catching all this fish.. ;)
Cheech can you make yours 1/2cm longer :-X
The Snork’s line goes ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ and a bit more :o
The calls where made, fish of a lifetime, shark, ray, jew ;D
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :o
Play it easy, you got plenty of time 8-)
Lift wind
DON’T TOUCH THAT DRAG :-?
Lost all my braid on to backing ::)
Don’t panic ;)
Fish of lifetime ;D
AHHH got the braid back :)
It’s not doing much, vermin :(
Getting closer :-X
Got some colour……… :P
Its ahhh, SILVER AND PINK!!!! ;D
Get the net (which I already had) ;)
Get it in, take your time, don’t touch the drag… :)
And finally it’s in the net and on board ;D ;D ;D
YOU BLOODY BEUTY
5kg, 72cm Bay Snapper
Well done Snorky ;)
Drinks all round. :)

That’s it for other fantastic episode of Cheech's Charters, till next time
Cheech, Chong and the Snork

Of course I put Snorkys catch down to the great tutoring he received. ::)

And to those couple of boats that continued to motor up through all the other boats at anchour and drift plastics, 100m drift and motor straight back up through the boats and drift 100m, the motor straight back,,,, you get the idea. Thanks for bloody nothing. I don't mind drifters through anchourd boats, but to then motor back over where everyone is fishing is just plain wrong. One of them was that close that they nearly ran over snorkys line when he had the snapper on. (can you tell that I was not very impressed??). Next time have the courtesy to motor around rather than through please.

Huh??

Not meaning to start a bun fight on this one Cheech, I don't know how close is "close" and I agree that fisho's should always exhibit some common courtesys when out on the water, and I hope that as hard as I try not to drift over the top of someone, the current and the unpredictable puff of wind does not make my drift closer to your boat that I originally intended. Your comment here sounds a little strong. Just remember, the guy drifting could say " I wish those guys anchored up would not anchor right in the middle of my drift pattern." That happened to me at Green, but I don't think it deserves any choice words spoken. So what's wrong and what's right? Respect for your fellow Fisho is what's right, no matter if you drift or you anchor.

Good catch by the way, I am sure the whole crew had a good day by the looks. ;D

How close is too close? ::) I was helping snork as was cheech when he had the hook up on the snapper and after the first 2 runs he had a lot of line out, and it was high in the water, this boat came thru nearly cutting snorks line :-?, he had to drop the rod tip to be safe ::), now that’s a little close I think. More to the point I don’t know if anyone was catching fish but after about a 6th on board the boats where in over and on top of us with so much noise and stuffing around we where lucky to keep the fish on the bite. :-X

I know no one owns the ocean, but it’s a bit of courtesy, there was a lot of boats out, some anchored and stayed at anchor, there was one lot fishing plastics that could not resist to come into our drift line :-X, ok, and they got a fish they left soon after, the guys in the tiller steer sea jay, :-? what the? ½ dozen loops around and anchored back where they started???

Any way that’s what you get on a weekend, most boaties are aware, as are we, but some times you got to get a little close, it’s the stuffing around of anchors and motors that gets me. I don’t know about you guys but I prefer to be away from other boats, noise does travel on the water and even if you have to comprise your spot by some meters and you get some fish you can normally keep it to your selves without every one in ear shot pulling the anchor to move 15m closer…you know what I mean.

Thanks for the comments, let’s all be happy, don’t worry and go fishing.
;) ;) ;)

Gidday Chong,

Darned annoying I have to agree. I still get annoyed when my deckies do things like drop sinkers into the bottom of the boat( finnished up carpeting it so it's no longer a problem), so yes, I agree, doing loops around like that can put the fishing off.

Anyhow, you guys really know how to fish, it must be so tempting to call in a sick day so you can get away from the crowds and fish in the middle of the week so these things don't happen. But hey, you nearly bagged out anyways?? :o

Scalem, you must not have properly read what I have written. I clearly said that I have no problem with people drifting through, and that my issue was with them motoring straight back through the anchoured boats "where everyone is fishing". Re-read my post and you will find that most of what you have written is in response to something I did not say.

F4L, that is Mud Island at the eastern carpark.

My appologies Cheech, I see your point now. Motoring too close to anchored boats is illegal let alone annoying to someone with a line in the water :-[

Holy smokes blokes, the boys have done it again :o :o

Cheech - I've got a suggestion if you're ever finding it too busy. Get on your radio:

CC: "Coast Guard Brisbane, Coast Guard Brisbane, Coast Guard Brisbane.
This is Cheech Charters, Cheech Charters, Cheech Charters. Over"

CGB: "Cheech Charters. This is Coast Guard Brisbane. Go ahead. Over"

CC: "Coast Guard Brisbane. This is Cheech Charters...GREEN ISLAND. OH MY GOD PART 4. Over & Out"

Cue mass desertion from Mud.

;D ;D ;D

Well done, as ever.

Good luck,
Mike
