Tweed Feed

Went fishing the other night to get the start of the runout. Used 3" berkley powerbaits and caught 18 fish including, 2 small trevs, 9 flatties (only 4 legal), 2 whiting and 5 bream (4 were legal). :) Took a mixed bag home for a feed. Also saw a 3kg jack swimming around with crap hanging out of it's mouth. It looked like it had busted someone off and was carrying around the snag as a trophy. :)

What sort of location are you fishing with plastics at night? Were you fishing structure near artificial light (ie. bridge lights, etc)?

I haven't had much success with sp's at night, so very interested in what sory of areas do well.

I like your color choice. I was flicking at last week at night time with an identical SP. Had good results.

I reckon darker colors cast a stronger shadow against the sky at night(fishes view).

I have more success with Sp's at night. Basically fish rely on their lateral line sense to pick up differences in water pressure. This means at night, no matter how dark, they can pick up on movement and will hone in. I use 15lb flurocarbon leader at night and even finiky species like bream and whiting will bite which gives evidence to the theory that fish rely more on other senses apart from their eye sight at night. Saying that; the colour of the Sp has little effect on my catch at night however the size and make does.

I also like to fish where there is bright lights in the water because it attracts baitfish. Bridges are good because it's comfortable, usually well lit and there is structure at your feet.

Dylan the whiting was 36cm and tasted great.

Good catch mate.

I dived (spearing) for three hours on Tuesday in the Tweed between Boyds Bay Bridge and the park opposite the bait and tackle shop. For those interested, there's a lot of flathead sitting around. Many of them are undersize, but there's a few good sized specimens getting around too. No need to cast far - 90% of them in less than 1m of water. Saw hundreds of bream around 20-25cm size, and a few absolute ball tearers well over the 30cm mark. Was hoping to find a jack hiding around the bridge pylons, but none showed up - just dirty big puffer fish.
