Hi Fellow Ausfishers
Well, I couldn't wait for Friday so decided to go Wed instead.
It was a bit of struggle deciding whether to go into the bay for doggies followed by Coco for the turn of the tide or concentrate my efforts on the shallows.
A bit doubtful about the weather so decided to go the shallows option and focus on SP's. Dunno where the 20kt winds had gone but they certainly weren't anywhere near Townsville. And it turned into a grey old day anyway - not exactly the warming effect I was banking on given the cloudless day the day before. Perfect mackeral weather, they say (hmmm - wrong decision).
Found some ~crystal clear water in about 2.5m of water over reef country and proceeded to watch my sp's get hammered by all sorts of reef-dwellers. Got bricked by a couple of bigger animals - cod or trout maybe.
3/4 cod to 45cm, 3 30cm GT's that fought way above their weight class, half doz 'cuda to about 70cm (lure killers!) hooked a ~65cm barra but lost him. Went thru 6/7 sp's, 2 on terra-firma and 4 that lost their tails. Fish were hitting the sp's on the 'drop so the hookup rates were woeful - triple the above boated numbers. On the low I had fun drifting along the reef-edge jigging the sp and watching the line for a hit. Missed every single hit (we're talking maybe a doz. here).
Need to take lessons from Barnesy...
No pics because I let them all go (and we still haven't the digital back).
