Took the 2 young fellas for a boys day out today. Headed down to the pin in search of some fish - any fish. Pulled up on a sandbar and pumped some yabbies. Off to a good start as the boys Luke(3) and Jessie(5) started grabbing the yabbies, after being show how to grab them without being nipped. Hard to drag them away to go and convert yabbies into fish. After a little persuasion we anchored in a little channel and sent the yabbies to work. Had some lunch which mum had made for us and Lukes rod bent over a little. Could not tear the rod from his hands as he started to wind him in. His first fish a Bream just on 23cm. Well he was wrapped. 5 minuits later Jessie's rod give a few twitches and he is on. Bream 25cm. Got a couple more before heading home to tell mum all about it.

Got home and Jessie is still keen to fish so out comes the rod with the hook removed for some casting practice. Surprised me, after 2 goes he is casting like there is no tommorrow. Looks like he will make a great fisherman.

What a great way to spend a Saturday.

How good is that!!!

The kids are lucky to have a Dad to get them started early -- I still remember my early years(a long time ago) fishing with my old man

That sounds like two very lucky kids (and one lucky dad who's has sons are keen to fish with him ;)). I didn't start serious fishing till I was 30 - my dad wasn't a fisherman. I just hope my daughter is just as keen as your two boys when she is that age!

Hope you have many more days like that one

Hainesy,

youve done it now mate ;) There will be no more sneakin out for a fish without the boys ;D

It's good to get em interested early, my 2 come out %90 of the time with me. I made a rule that they had to be able to swim reasonably well before they could come offshore.

I have a 12 Yo been fishin with me since 6 and a 6 YO who has been out with me for the last 18 months

I'm thinkin the same Garry. My two can swim in the pool with no vest's or such and can get themselves across the pool no worries. I am keen to take Jessie for a small trip out through the Seaway. Hit a couple of bow-waves from the big cruisers going past today and it didn't seem to phase either of them. I hope he likes the DEEP WATER as I call it. Bring it on. :)

Yeah thats a great session for the kids mate, good to see kids out and about and not on the xbox, thats for the dads late at night.

My Grandpa started me fishing at 4 back in S.Afr and golfing at 11, now its my life, gotta love learning when you are young, keep up the teachings mate, great day.
