Got the call yesterdayfrom Cheech for a daytime attack at mud Today.
The Plan was to fish the afternoon till just after dark.
When we got to Mud there were quite a few boats about and as we sounded around for our patch we said Gday to Steve (Hi -Yo) ,he said he had been nailing every undersized scnapper in the bay.
He must have done a good job, but more of that later.
We set the anchor and found ourselves fishing around the corner a bit , with the wind holding us up against the current, but it was no big deal and quite comfortable with no sea to mention.
First baits hit the water and Cheech doesnt wait to open his account, he boats a nice fish around 38cm , then follows it up with a better one. My turn, and I add two more about the same. We were both fishing two rods and the action just kept coming non stop playing fish ,unhooking with your second rod going off and double hookups a plenty. I dont think we tossed a bait that didnt get at least a turn of the reel.
Within about 90 minute we were near our bag and the call went "45 is a keeper". We boated over 30 fish in less than two hours , most were size and we couldnt believe we were releasing 42cm fish.
We each had a few impressive fish on at various times but lost them either through the fish spitting the hook or a bite off, in one case i had the leader in view on a heavy fish on my heavy outfit when he bit me off >:(
I set for a trophy fish with a whole fresh whiting on my 15 kg gear, Cheech threw a big slab of mullet on his 4kg out fit and guess who came up trumps???
The little twinpower starts squeeling and line is spilling at a great rate of knots, Cheech quitely says" this ones the one your after rob"
Five minutes and Cheech is not making headway and I cant help but offer some advice( Cheech needs my advice cause he cant fish :-X)
He starts to worry about line capacity and asks me to get ready to slip the anchor. So I go forward and wait for the call. But he starts to win some line, and I come back and get the net ready. He has a very impressive working bend in his little outfit but calmly take control of the fight and after another five minutes I see the line heading for the front of the boat but ,my buddy turns him and i see a big swirl just out of reach , A couple more pumps and i slide the net under an 81cm scnapper, and thats our bag limit. I cant remember what it weighed , better than 6 kgs though.
Well Done Mate!!!.
I tossed a big slab of mullet out to see if he had any mates around and immediately hooked up to a 38 cm tailor,
We had a drink to celebate Cheechs fish and his rod gave a twitch and he also lands a tailor.
So we got our bag of scnapper and a brace of tailor to boot.
AND we were home in time to see the football ;D ;D ;D ;
Thanks Craig that was a great session, you certainly know how to find those fish.
Ive got some photos on my phone( pretty poor quality), I have to try and work out how to post them.
Cheers
