Hit Peel at sparrows this morning was a bit breezy so fished close to the island mainly around lazarets gutter caught about a billion undersize squire and only 1 just legal on a hawk sp. I find these thing fish well early in the morning but loose effectiveness as day wears on. Any body else find that? (normally I'd send it back... but as it was legal and we were at desperation stakes... well you know) :-/

Anyway I fished sps and my 7 yr old fished bait - fresh squid.... he outfished me by about 2 to one. ;) Water was quite clear but weather was s'house could'nt raise anything else and there was hardly any bait sounding so after we got our tails wet (so much for the report of a slight possibility of showers... Id say a big possibility :-?) it calmed down enough we headed across to Amity banks to use up the rest of the squid on the resident diver whiting. The 7 year old had a ball quality was quite good smallest was 23cms and largest over 27 - not bad for winter whiting.

Anyway the whiting made up for a very poor day on the water..... is it just me or is peel fishing slow at the moment? Not pretending to be a gun fisher but I have seen better days!

Hmmm yeh sounds like its "one of those days" kinds of things. Oh yeh before anyone says anything we only fished the entrance of Lazarets in 5-7mts of water at low tide - not in the exclusion zone. I havent caught any monsters there yet but theres a nice looking pinnicle or drop off whatever just inside that red bouy that marks the entrance - looks like it should hold fish and we always catch something there every drift - but must be the nursery. Anyone know where I mean? Does it ever hold good fish or am I in the babies ward?? This is my first season fishing Peel so any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Adam

aHa.. Scott ... Yeh I've been meaning to pm you... Thanks for the prop... ;) ...i think its too big or something cause it was causing too much cavitation (is that the word?) like slippage... would slip out of gear - motor reved but didnt go anywhere.. so we limped over to Russell Is and Darryl (Crestcutter) put on his 17... then it was all fine. (What a champ ;D) He did say when he was taking it off that the outboard mech might have had it on too loose - didnt knock down enough of the "pins" that keep the nut from slipping.... so who knows. But thanks anyway - I am blown awyway by the generosity and helpfulness of some of you other ausfishers :D :D Really appreciate it!!

Went with a couple of mates to flat rock a couple of years ago and dropped 2 pots off on that drop off. When we came back the brother-in law was saying the pots heavy; it had a 3 foot cod in a 3 foot pot. it had spat out 2, 3/4 kilo bream that were completly descaled to get in. We took photos to prove it. So that drop off has some big critters swimming around it.

Maybe thats the big tip... 3 foot pots... but then again fish in pots dont fight too hard ;D taste the same tho ;)
