Evening Ausfishers. I've noticed alot of reports this weekend which is great to see as people must have taken advantage of the great weather.
So bearing that in mind, I've decided to add my own little report in as well.
This weekend was momentous in many ways, some good and some bad, depending on how you percieve it.
Firtsly, reaching the age of 28 this weekend (please don't PM me happy birthdays all at once folks) I had the chance to ponder my future. Getting older now mate, gotta start making a few sacrifices and maybe giving footy away is one of em. I started fielding a few of lifes many questions......
It wasn't until halfway through my A grade clash with top of the table leaders Ipswich when I hit the biggest guy on the field and felt all 28 years of my age. I don't think not training for the last 3wks and being called into the run on after sitting the bench for reserve's had much to do with it. Retirement may be the answer Richieboy....................
And with those thoughts on mind I found myself at my local creek wading around a few of my favourite grounds, nursing bruised shoulders. :'(
Met up with my cousin JC who had graciously called to inform me he was also on his way down and we hit the creek at 1pm. 5 knot winds, sun shining, what more could we ask for but fish. And as you read on folks you will soon learn we managed a few.
JC showed the way early with a solid 46cm speciman beached before I followed suit with 2 undersize lizards. Trekking ahead I noticed one of my favourite little drop offs and wading out into the shallows I sent my little 3 & 1/4 inch paddletail flying out to seek life. First twitch and WHACK!!!!!! I'm onto a freighter stripping braid quicker than you could holler "STOP!"
"Stingray buddy?????" Jc snickers.
"Nah mate, too many head shakes, I'm calling Lizard!!" I retort with that sweet "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" sounding in my ears. Tweak the drag and slowly pull up on her before she relents slightly giving me back some of that $$$$$$ Fireline I'd recently spooled. Another 2 quick runs and still no colour. :-?
An onlooker rushes over to offer some assistance and have a sticky beak when I finally get a glimpse of the big girl............ :o :o :o And what a sight to behold she was!
80 + cm of fighting lizard as thick as my arm and pulling with everything she's got!!!! Suddenly this onlooker goes for the 10lb leader to pole the big girl in for me. :'(
" Let her be mate! If she wants to run, I'll let her go!" I snarl as the Wilson buckles and I'm thanking god for the creation of composite fibres such as graphite.
What seems like an eternity later I'v landed my new PB. A few quick pics and a measure sees her swimming free. :D :D
Following the release we landed a few more lizards going just under 40cm. No fish were kept for the 2 & 1/2hrs fishing we'd had, and I'd experienced a milestone. What a weekend. Must have been my birthday luck.
Hope you enjoyed the tale and sorry if it was longwinded, but I'm sure there are others out there who just wished every1 was there to share that special moment with them...........I guess that's why digi's were invented eh. LOL!
Cheers, and pics to follow.
Rich ;)
PS: Just for the record we drew with Ipswich. Top team my ar$e! :P
