Fished under the bridge near the military jetty at Golden Beach again this afternoon. Got there just before low tide, which left the rocks exposed and allowed me to get a little closer to the pylons of the bridge. Chucked plastics around for a while, but hadn't sighted anything other than a big stingray. Decided to use the last 3 inch gulp in the packet. After about 3 casts I was bringing it in slowly to my feet when the stingray jumped up from nowhere and snaffled it. To say I was surprised was an understatement, as I hadn't really been watching the lure that carefully. Suddenly I was hooked up to a big ray and I tried my best to keep him close. Unfortunately, on 4lb line I was never really in with a chance. After a couple of solid runs he sat his big flaps on the bottom and just sat there. Tried my best to get him in but eventually the knot to the hook popped.

After that little bit of action was over I switched to some smaller lures hoping to get a moses perch or something I could cut up and put on the heavier rod to exact my own little revenge on the stingray. I had a couple of good hits but no hookups with some micro minnows when one cast I must have hit this school of fish right on the head, there were numerous flashes as they seemed to fight each other to get to my lure. Fought quite well the little fella and after a few jumps and whatnot I thought I must have a tarpon. Turned out to be a baby Queenfish, only about 25cm long, but a new species to add to the list. After I caught him (and struggled to get the hook out, they jump about everywhere once you get them in) the school just weren't interested, so I headed off. Not a great day's action, but I at least left with a workout for the arms and a new species for the tally.
