hello everybody,
this week a friend from italy is visiting and since he likes fishing we coped the bad weather and went on wednesday to west point after leaving the missus and my friend's sister on maggie. a couple of small cods for starters and then what I thought it was a big one (actually it was a massive puffer fish) >:( while I was reeling in a big fish came to the surface to check it out, at first I thought it was a shark, then I could see it was a cobia. enought time passed to re-set the rod and then the cobia took my pilchard, as my friend was reeling in the other line he also got hit. we where so happy :) big cobia double hook-up.( I've never got one so I was prety keen on landing them....) then things got out of control. my fish crossed paths with my friend's and the line snapped :(, my friend fought with the other fish till we could see it close to the boat and I got ready to gaff it but at the last minute the fish went under the boat and the line snapped with the hull :'( :'(. after that we still got a couple of doggies but as you can imagine we where a tad sad.
as we where soooooo disappointed we decided to go back on thursday despite the forecast. didn't get much on the pillies and squid except one trout so we decided to troll. saw plenty of tuna and mackarel and tried almost all my lures with no luck :( . then it took us one hour to get back through the fierce swell.
hopefully I'll go again on sunday with the missus (fingers crossed)
see ya on the water
