Hey fisho's. :D
I was going to hit Bribie this weekend but as the weather forecast was for wind and rain, I went to bed forgetting the idea.
Woke up this morning to an overcast day and decided to play it safe trying my local creek out.
With the 15-20 knot wind forecasts on my mind, I was pleasantly surprised to find the waters as calm as a lake all be it overcast. Just one other bloke and his two kids down for the morning trying for a few whiting. Said our goodmornings and after wishing him luck I set out barefoot up the creek. 3rd cast and I was on. Not that healthy headshake that I'm so used to, but sharp runs left and then right. Flashes of silver in the murky waters confirmed my suspicions and I landed a healthy little chopper. Being a rarity for me in the creek, I bled the critter and in the bag he went!
Soon after my plakky was monstered once again, this time feeling more like what I was after. A few quick squeels of the drag and I'd landed a nice 47cm lizard. Fitting the criteria she was quickly put into the bag as well. ;)
As luck would have it, those wind warnings soon kicked in and it was time for me to leave. With the tide coming in I landed another 3 lizards (2 legal), all released.
Around the corner and out of the westerlies saw me land 2 squid to complete the mixed bag. That should keep me going till next week.
Back before lunch to go shopping. Productive morning I guess, pity the sun wasn't out............ Total tally: 4 lizards, 1 tailor and 2 squid for 3 hrs fishing. Cheers.
Pic attatched of the kept catch.

I'm sure there wasn't a 'missed call' on my mobile this morning?

Nice! Going to have to hit that creek in the tinny this week - plenty of spots to stay out of the wind...

good one! I want to get into jigging for squid but figured they'd be specific trips to jetties at night but the evidence shows you can pick them up in creeks as well. Do you just look for weed anywhere? Deeper water only? Any info would be appreciated.

Hey fellas thanx for the positive replies. T1, Dylan and I are all very lucky to have a good creek at our doorstep. You can get up there when the winds are up and literally catch anything estuarine from Jacks to cod!
T: sorry for not calling. Last minute 'D' and at 7am in the morning I didn't wanna disrupt your beauty sleep (not that you need it anyways huh). ;D ;D Forget the tinny mate, let's get dirty! Too much boat time and you've lost your sense of adventure!
Ibbo and others, the plakky used is my favourite atomic 4" paddletail in watermelon. I was surprised my 10lb leader didn't get cut straight away. Nasty teeth them choppers. Last week I got cut off by a big one on 12lb leader, so they are out there.
Chrisfish: the squid I caught technically weren't in the creek, but around the corner. Weedy drop offs are the spot of choice but I regularly see em school over the rocks as the tide comes in. That is the best time to smack em as you can see where they are and effectively target them. Look for weed patches off rock walls etc. The bayside foreshores are full of options for the landbased angler. I had wanted to take a nice piccie of a squid school for all the folks on the forum to see but weather was poor. :-[ As for deeper water, not nessicarily. I have pulled some of the best of em at Low tide. Deeper water makes em dive deep and often less bitey as they watch for other predators that also move in with the tide. Also harder to spot em. This is just my experience (landbased) others may find it different. I prefer the run in or 2hrs into the run out.
Hope this helps some people. Anyone else wishing to offer info on Squidding please add!
Cheers.

Rich ;)

Great catch Rich. I spent the day at work, I know what I would rather be doing. I told my wife I was going to some fishing from the bank around the Pine and she said she would like to go with me and give it a try. She keeps surprising me with her willingness to learn and get dirty. Again well done Rich.
