Howzit going my Ausfish mates?

Well after fishing with a few fellow Ausfishers over the past couple weeks I decided to go ace up again for my past flick sessions.

The spot "JF" I have been fishing lately has produced some great results with a total of 6 Jew's caught between 35cm-61cm with sightings and bustoffs happening on a just about regualr basis. I have had most the success at low tide using 3" and 4" gulps in various colours on 1/10th-1/4 tt Jigheads and 8lb-20lb leaders. The Bycatch has been some very nice Flattys with the biggest one going 77cm, kept one tonight at 51cm which is usually throw back size for me, but figured that I had been rather kind to the Qld Flathead population lately with all my releases and decided to do the coconut curry......can now testify that it was a great decision......thanx mr Flatty, my girlfriend and I really enjoyed your offering ;D

As my fridge is still full with about 20 squid, I have had no need to take any fish bar tonights Flatty or try tempt any squid, thats where my Jewie addiction took over. So after setting out with a few new lures and plans with some heavier leader, persistence has finally paid off and I am now ready for my trip to S.Afr next month to chase some big Jewies on plakky's.

3 weeks holidays here I come. All pics from above story are on mobile so I will have to get Rich or T1 to confirm the captures. Give me a call next week guys if you want to catch up for a JF Sesh.

Happy fishing everyone ;)

Cheers Barnesy

Gday mate,

nice catch.
just a question about the squid, considering you have good skills in cathcing them. I have just bought a squid jig and am very keen in catching squid but have never done it before, and prefer eating squid over fish any time. any hints, tips or spots you can reccomend for me to try.

Cheers Samand

White_Steenbras, you never cease to amaze me. Target a species and you'll always seem to catch em. Well done and great read mate.
Gee I wish you had a digi tho so I could see the jewies.
Guess I'll just have to see em up close in person for myself. Will give you a buzz soon. ;)
As a matter of fact I'm off on a little work trip myself. Up to Derby (Nth of Broome in the Kimberley country), and very keen to sharpen my skills with a few choice plakky's as well. Looking forward to it bru!

Who's keen after this little bit of rain?

Samand, for your squiding try along the foreshores from Redcliffe to Wellington Point, find some covered rocky weedy area's at either low tide or high, I prefer low tide approaching the high as the squid seem to move in closer to the newly flooded areas in search of baitfish. If fishing shallow water I suggest lightening your jig, take some of the weight off. Good luck.

Bring on the holidays.

Cheers Barnesy. ;)

Sharp eksę :)

Good going on the jewies.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the plastics back in SA. I've often wondered just how well plastics would work in the old country. Most of my mates back there haven't even heard of plastics.

I must say Sunny, I never to used to use the Plakkys back in S.Afr, always bait from the rocks or slugs and poppers.

I really look forward to the trip and look forward to posting some pics when I get back.
