Hey everybody,

Fishign has been a little quiet with all of my assesment coming closer to the dealine... oh and the parties, beers and pizzas! Anyway I needed a fix so I went down to the local creek and hooked onto 6 Fortail catfish and a Freshwater eel all of which were caught on chicken thigh and donated to my African buddy so he could enjoy a good chew!

I finally got my ever so positive girlfriend and anti-fisherwoman to come with me for a 'romantic' fish somewhere along a pier near Southport. It was the first time in 7 years and yeah she agreed so I took the window of opportunity and off we went packed up and on the road.

Scheduled for 4:30 start leading up to the 6pm high, I wanted to fish till about 8pm on the run out. Even with some burley, there wasnt much on the chew. BUT i was determined to get the girl on a fish.

Bites were far and few between, I was the first with a Breambo---only 22cm... I was embarrased. and threw the little fella in. Then again about 10 min later... I was on... but nothing to write home about a just legal (which we threw back). She convinced me to up the legal size limit to 25cm and thats what we were aiming for. Bite bite bite... I was trying to teach her how what to look for ...and then back the tip went sic and she striked at the right moment....she was on and I was stoked.

Bring it in! She was estatic and glad to catch a fish that was bigger than mine. 30cm (nothing huge) but she didn't let me forget about it! :-[

Anyway she caught another one at 25cm and again about 2 hours later at 8pm we decided to call it a night. It was just perfect except for the whole couple on a luxy houseboat litrally yelling and screming at eachother for the durationg of our fish. That was what spoiled the night... two people who couldnt give it a rest... and it was depressing to hear people fishting and things slamming, couldn't tell if someone was hitting someone but often wondered who the hell we could report it too since it was on the water?

Anyway enough said... i wasn't going to write a report, but hopefully she has the bug and we can plan another trip together. Theres nothing better than getting the misses into the fishing game! ---as long as she doesn't out fish me! :P

Have a good one fellas! Sorry I didn't bother taking pictures... i dd ask her but she said naye!

until next time.

Good luck!

George. ;D

Great to see that she was willing to give it a go!! :) Catching fish on the first trip is a bonus, she will be keen to go again next time. It's a great way to spend time together in the great outdoors and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. ;)

Cheers Kim.

Maybe that was the trouble in the house-boat, she may have caught a bigger fish than him. Bob.

Matey, good on yer for getting the missus out for a flick!

I have yet to get wifey with a rod in her hands (LEAVE IT ;D)
fiddling around with a worm (leeeeave it!)
or trying to work the soft plastics (sounds like a Sat. night at my place).

In Scotland the female ghillies (row the boat out on the loch and guide you) get twice the money the guys get- some say it has something to do with pheremones and hormones..... :-*

Nice report and not to worry about the piccies, there's always next time....

lol.... thanks for all ya responses!

Kinda swamped with various work commitments at the moment. However the girl thankfully reminded me about that ever so important date this Saturday ---- I think it was called an anniversery.... :D Well I think its perfect timing to take her to a romantic location and spend the day together.

I was thinking Southport -- near the water... picnic blanket, champagne, chocolate, sandwhiches and just in case she feels like fish ... I was going to bring the rods along and catch her a few.... ;D

In all seriousness .... I think its on! 8-) I have to beat her PB 30cm....

Have a good one guys and good luck!

Ill keep ya posted when i get a chance :)!

Good onya George. Congrats on the bream and encouraging your girlfriend to catch her first and to appreciate what we all enjoy. Hope you get the chance to throw a line on saturday, but if you dont it still sounds like it will be a great day anyway.

Enjoy Saturday mate......whatever you decide to do.........or do you not get a say in it? ;D Drop a hint, write this in the card:

kev

I don't need music, lobster or wine.
Whenever your eyes look into mine;
The things I long for are simple and few:
A rod, a reel, some bait, and you!

Now that's my sort of card Kev! I would make a slight change to the last line though:

A Rod, a reel, AND some bait FOR you!

George if its something special like an anniversary, could I suggest just putting out some livies on set lines, so you can share the wine and food on the blanket and your girl won't think you're not being romantic.

If you need some bait FOR her, may I suggest a diamond bracelet or something similar..............me? I just rely on my charm ;) ;D

If I can only be with you in my dreams, then I want to sleep forever.

Kev, was thinking more like Squid, 'Mullay', Pillies, Pike etc...

A combo of these should get her blood boiling... ;D
