Fridays I can usually negotiate a fishing pass from the Mrs. This morning (Friday 11th) I decided to go back to the Pumicestone Passage at Bribie Island and have a go for some Bream at Buckley’s Hole. I set out about 3.30 am in mad fisho style as I wanted to fish the last of the run out tide – that worked for me last week.
I should point out that I am fairly new to fishing having really only started seriously in January this year. I am always reading about people catching endless Bream - 20 at a time etc, but it has never happened to me. On a couple of occasions I have caught 4 or 5 in a couple of hours (in fact this happened last Friday at Bribie so that’s why I headed back up there). I only use plastics and when I do get Bream I always think it is luck as I am usually fishing places where I think there will be Flathead.
Anyway to cut a long story short on Friday from about 5.00 am through to lunchtime I finally had one of those Bream sessions. 18 fish and a few dropped - all on plastics ranging from the Pumpkinseed and Watermelon 2” Minnow Grub to the Realstix 3” Pumpkinseed Minnow, to the Powerbait 3” Minnow in various colours from Rainbow to Pumpkinseed. Biggest fish was 34 cm but 12 of the 18 were keepers. I generally had them on a 1/8th 2/0 Jighead. I kept nine as I figured that was all we could eat fresh. I was fishing the drop off in my waders just out the front of Buckley’s Hole on the southern tip of Bribie Island. I fished the run out and run in and it did not seem to make much difference – although things actually slowed down a bit as the tide turned.
Great day - I attach a pic of the good ones – as you can see I was so excited I farted in my waders! :-[
