G'day Ausfishers!
After waking up late today (0900) myself the Missus decided to head up to Bribie for a bit of a fish. After launching the boat the first port of call was fishing around the pilons of the bridge, as I thought we might pick up the odd bream. It was tough anchoring up the boat in around 8 metres of water as the tide was really steaming through. It took around three attempts when the anchor finally gripped the bottom. Sweet. After around 15 minutes this twit in a whittley cruiser came thumping through where we were fishing and the wash made our boat's anchor to let go. Once I pulled the anchor in and moved back up where we were and re-anchored the twit decided to anchor up right next to us, and one of the blokes on the twits boat decided to have a leak over the side of his boat in full view of myself and the missus. He was using very light tackle ;D ;D ;D
We decided to give the bridge the flick as there was no action and moved up to in front of Buckley's hole for a bit of a drift. This produced a couple of undersized whiting. As this spot was less than spectacular, we moved further north up the passage to near the old wreck and established a drift over the sand bars near there. I was admiring a Sea Eagle sitting on top of a beacon eating a fish he had just caught when BANG, I'm on!! Winding it in, it felt quite heavy, and I thought it might have been a small ray, but to my delight it was a decent flatty going 45cm. Sweet, that's dinner sorted. got the lines back in, and BANG BANG!!! Double hookup!! The Missus pulls in another flatty at 32cm and I pull in a big filthy toad fish. We let the flatty go, he was legal, but they grow so much bigger, so we thought we would let him get a bit bigger. I let the toad fish go, after administering a little brain surgery (knife in the head).
We had a bit more of a drift around and called it quits around 1500. All in all a great day.
We are so lucky to have such a beautiful bay right on our doorstep. Even if I don't catch anything I just love getting out there.
Cheers,
Lunatic.
