Left Manly just after 0400 for the run up to the Rouse with a little southerly on, but all was OK. The plan was to chase a Snapper or 2, but there was a definite "PLAN B". Got anchored up around 0500 with the first hint of dawn fast approaching and lots of bait showing on the sounder. Chopped up some burley, sent out some baits and waited. Apart from a Stingray, nothing happening. Then, I caught a nice size Scad just before high tide at 0700. Time to trot out "PLAN B". Out came the little rod with a small sinker and hook, a small piece of Squid on the hook, a couple of scoops of burley and away we went. I was catching nice size Scad one after the other when the Snapper gear started to attract some interest. Caught and released some just under Squire, then got a good hookup as I was retrieving line after missing another good hit. A few minutes later and after some fancy footwork and dancing around other lines in the water, a nice School Mackerel was swung aboard and filed in the esky. Things started to taper off a bit, but I did manage to drop 1 really good fish, but such is life. Headed for home about 0915 just before the wind. The Scad were washed and put into packets for later and the Schoolie was filleted and the fillets were chopped up also for later. Finished up with 25 nice Scad and 1 Schoolie. No fish for dinner, but all was well, as I now have lots of nice fresh bait in the freezer. Now, all I have to do is perform some magic tricks, wherein I try to turn Scad and Schoolie fillets into Snapper and Pearl Perch on the next Outside trip, which will be soon, hopefully.

Cheers,
NICK.

Not a big fan of any of the Mackerels as table fare. I'd rather try and turn them into a good feed of reef fish, but that's just my opinion.

NICK.
