Not having been fishing for almost a month and having seen the great reports of some terrific flathead at the 'Pin on this site and heard of in Nugget's podcasts ("They are in plague proportions!!"), I made a late decision last night to overcome a sprained back from last weekend and go and do some drifting around the 'Pin for flatties today from about 6.30am to 11am.
It was a lovely day but I wasted my time. #I did not get so much as a bite!!! #>:( # Not a bite!!! #>:( >:( >:(
Damn!!! # >:(
There was really no point in drifting around down there today. #Far too much weed wrapping itself around bait and sinker. #:(
The areas that I drifted are as shown in red on the picture below. I have caught good flathead in all of those spots in the past. #I think that I should have stuck with Mud Island for the time being! #;)

mate, bad luck about the days fishing. Could you do me a favour and send me that pic without the orange lines on it? It's a great pic of one of my all time favourite places.

Chrisfish - it is not possible to send pix on PMs on Ausfish. #
The pic is easy to get though - and much more #- just download Google Earth and you can get satellite pix of anywhere on the planet.
For example, here is a picture that I have just taken from Google Earth of parts of an airport in Moscow...

This is probably what you want but it is better if you download Google Earth and then you can get satellite pix of anywhere you want and at the size that you want.

Likewise, this is a shot of part of Amberley air force base.
Just think - if this is what anyone can see for free, just imagine what the military has available in real time and at better levels of magnification. # :o

Not just the military, what about the ATO or the Brisbane City Council.
Thats how they know if you cut trees down, make a new driveway etc....
Big brother is watching!

P.S sorry to here about no fish, but you marked the worst flathead areas in the Pin area. ;) ;D
Bad luck on the fishing Charleville, Three of your drifts are where I have caught most of my flatties over the last few weeks, and the other places I fish are on the map as well, they are easy to find just see where most of the boats are working and you have the spots.

By all accounts it has been pretty tough out there this week mate. #Wait for a better moon phase and SE winds before trying those spots again and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Never give up!!!!

dark side shayne??? there are more colours in those bloody plastics than you would see at the gay mardi gras.

Similar experience -- Fished the pin on Wednesday and Thursday soft plastics only -- it was hard work -- the flatties just were not cooperating -- managed 6 around 38-39cm and 4 over 40cm with the largest 62cm (returned to breed another day) - and that was from 2 days of hard fishing.
I wonder if the northlies had anything to do with it -- everything else was spot on -- except for the weed.

We fished the 'Pin yesterday too- from 9.30 till 3- water dirty and hot fish very shut down but a few tricks ended up working. As the tide runs out the water got worse apart from a few better cleaner patches out of the main flow. flathead are tough in northerlies and when the water is over 22 they get a whole lot tougher.
The flathead classic could be tough this year if these are the conditions.
Ended up with 18 to 72cm in crap conditions. 3 anglers/6 hours ie approx 1 fish per hour per angler. Not good.

Hey Bruce
I think you'd be quite amazed and the huge success rate you'd have on SP's for flatties! When i used to fish hardbodies (about 10yrs ago), i'd outfished the total catch on bait in the previous 15 years in 1 year! Flatties are definitely a lure proposition in my opinion...
Better luck next time though and good to see you out again!
Take Care T
