I have booked a work fishing charter for this sunday, I booked about two months ago and now it looks like it will probably be cancelled. What conditions do they normally go out in.

G'day
The charter boats I worked on was 20 or 25kts and they'd call it off. There were quite a few mornings we'd be there, and get the call at 3am and have it called off. Real shame but hey, i'd rather be safe then sorry.

Chew, it would depend on there insurance company and the cover they have. I had two work trips cancelled with regards to the weather. One day it was blowin 30knts !, the second was for a forecast of 25kts, it didn't get over 5 knts the whole weekend ::)

The third time we had less than 5knts of Noosa and got some good fish ;)

crazier things have happened gents don't give up yet. remember that sunday earlier on this year that the forecast was for 25-30 i think and it was actually 5-10 variable all day. even the charters were all called off. i had to laugh cos a couple of blokes off this site put in a report on a tinny run they did on that day up around the banks in the northern bay and cleaned up on mackerel. i swear that every now and again the weather bureau guys must want to go for a nice quiet fish and put in a wild forecast so no-one else is around ;D

Went on a charter two weeks ago off Gold coast - 10kn predicted, fished from 6.30am-8am in 30+Kn winds, and he pulled the pin for insurance reasons. Still charged us $900 which is the price for a half day - was bull**it!! Best to cancel it the day before especially if its prediced than get out there for a couple of hours and still be charged for it!! :'( :'(

Depends which Charter operator you pick, I know of one who will go out in any conditions, as long as you hop on the boat and they take off, even if they fish for 10mins and everyone gets sick, they still charge a half day minimum. I dont think its particularly honest.

Happened to a friend of mine a couple of months ago - they felt a bit ripped off - then they did a real silly thing and resheduled with the same operator (lightening could strike twice right?)... exactly that same thing happened - this time they were out for a shorter time - made it out just past the bar and people started spewing and they turned around, tried to fish the seaway for a little while and came back in.... $90 each - no worries. Not good business - but they dont care 80% of their business is from tourists anyway - so who cares right?...... wrong :-[
