After Eight years trying to catch one of these buggers I am finally getting some. In an odd way too. My first jack came about a month ago on Bream gear. Now I have caught another two yesterday.
The first one came in a cast net as we were trying to gather bait for a live baiting session. I havent used bait for years and hate the stuff but we were actually targetting sharks on 1kg mono fishing in an ANSA comp so no plastics yesterday. The second jack I caught on 1 kg mono yep thats right 1 kg line. :o We put it on the scales on my bogagrips and it came just under 1 kg. Was awesome fun I couldn't believe how lucky I was to get him. the first was 36cm and the second was 39 cm.
I am definately going to target that area with lures now and leave the bait. It is such a boring way to fish. No offence ;)

Scottym I was suprised as well. We were drifting with a live poddy on a foot long steel trace so the sharkies couldnt get through. I saw the weight come on and I just kept the rod tip high and let himsort of tow me where he wanted to go. He flirted a couple of times at going towards the snag but ended up heading straight down the river. We netted him about 200mtrs from where we hooked him. It felt like a catfish so I was well and truly surprised an happy when we slipped the net under and he was red. Bloody amazing.

Rob we got a couple of runs from our boat but got busted off. The other boat we were fishing with got one at about 2 foot I think. Our boat also caught a nice Estuary cod and dozens of stinkin catfish.
Snapperm8, yerah we were chasing bullise on kilo gear. Trying to get the biggest weight on the smallest line. Good fun but you don"t land much

Excellent fish mate, especially on that light line. To me they taste as good as they look and fight on the end of a line.
