View Full Version : Sunday Mud - late report

Went for a run out to Mud on Sunday morn for a plastic session. Took out Craig who was still beaming after his 90 cm Snap he landed the week before. I was hoping that his good form would start to rub off on me. Got out through the river mouth and into the Northerly slop and swarms of jellyfish.
Was very difficult conditions to drift in and but I managed to snare my PB cod of 58cm. Craig got the only other keeper for the morning - a nice fat lookin 42cm squire. The 3inch gulp shaky shad did the trick on the cod. Thanks Craig for all the tips - I enjoyed the morning even though the conditions weren't the best.

That sure is a decent size cod. I'd have been stoked with that one. You have done well considering the conditions were working against you. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Mud strikes again!
You get some nice fish there ( for you on this occasion) but next trip might see the tables turn and Craig better his PB. You just never know. Geez it must be my turn soon!! ;) ;)

Good to see you managed to get a couple in the ordinary cond.
We tried a couple of drifts but the placcies were more like poppers skipping across the surface.

Hi guys,
Firstly congratulations Nathan on your fine catch. I was praying the reel and knots would hold for you as that rod hadnt been used for some time. For those who dont know Nathan lost a good fish some months ago when the leader knot I tied gave way. It was also a good capture especially given the conditions and the number of times the line kept hitting a jellyfish whilst you were fighting the fish.
Nathan caught his cod on 6lb braid with a 12lb leader. As you can just see by the picture the jig head was a bit heavier than we usually use but was the only way we could get to the bottom.
I was actually out the previous day with a mate from work and the conditions were the total opposite as it was like a mill pond. On that day we would have caught around 25 fish with only one 55cm specimen (again on the shaky shad). I was actually suprised we caught a legal fish as there was absolutely no run.
Yet on sunday the northerly made a mess of the conditions and yes we drifted quite quickly. We only caught probably 7 fish including the 2 keepers.
Dazza, I remember seeing your boat out there. we were the ones in the open tinny doing a few drift patterns not far from where you were anchored.
The good news is my brand new soft plastic outfit that i have been fishing for a few months with is no longer a virgin. I caught the 42cm on it using a Manns Hard nose. I still fish with my el cheapo rod as well, it is definitely been a lucky rod.
Cheers

Nice cod!
Is that just flotsam on his tail or a parasite of some kind?
