G'day,

I went down the Pin for a few hours this afternoon. Armed with the tips I've picked up and the advice offered by the members of Ausfish, I was feeling good about catching a flathead on SP. At the end of session I had boated 4, all under 40cm, and all carefully released. Photo of largest one below.

I know these fish aren't impressive and a lot of seasoned fishermen would find them quite boring, but these 4 fish are the start of something big for me. I learnt so much today and I can't wait to get back out there.

Thanks to the Ausfish members.

Regards, Brad.

Hi brad and congrats on the flathead, just remember a few key things! keep it near the bottom and have it hopping like a stunned fish, i like 3 inch berkley minnows because they cut through the water so well and therefore go back to bottom easily.

well done on the flatties, addictive isnt it? better start saving your money now, each time you go into a tackle shop you useally walk out with a different SP to try, pretty soon you have loads of packets to try, geeze its fun though.
cheers

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I'm starting to get a few different SP's now. I'm very stategically building my collection when I see the ones talked about on Ausfish. I see the place specialising in boating, camping and fishing has them on special at the moment. Might need to check that out I think.

Keep your eye out for future reports.

Regards, Brad.

That's tops Brad. Aint it sweet when it all starts to come together.

Just to help you out with that SP collection, my favourite lizard SP is the Berkley 3" or 4" shrimp in new penny colour on a 1/6th or 1/8th jig head for shallow water or 1/4 or 3/8 for deeper or fast running water. Have caught at least a dozen over 70cm on those & many other smaller units.

Loco Pez: I'll keep my eye out for the Berkley Shrimp. Thanks for the tip.
