Well, it's 4am and here I am standing at the Wello ramp. T1 pulls up and off we go.

Light rain, breeze from the NW, but hey, nothing ventured nothing gained. The mission....to convert Marlin Mike to the darkside of soft plastics.
Wasn't too bad out there early, breeze was only about 10kn NW, turned northerly soon after, and ran same way as the incoming tide.

Picked our spot and started flicking...... "I will not be tempted by the dark side....I will not be tempted......... I flicked....and flicked....... and after some invaluable tuition from Mr T, I finally got some sort of rhythm going.

Nothing. Nada, zip, zilch...neither of us getting nothing.

I get a hit.....i think it was anyway....... bang,......"oh noooooooo, i am on,,,, massive temptation from the darkside.......temptation....... doesnt feel big, and then, yes, colour. Right kind of fish, nice squire, my first ever in the boat on a SP. Dont know what sort it was, but do know it wass pumpkinseed. Measured up at 30cm, and back into the drink he went to grow bigger. ;D

You barstard......... the darkside of SP's was tightening it's grip. ;)

On we went, moving, changing drifts...... MR T is on....... looks ok...... right colour......bewdy a keeper in the boat, 37 and a touch long, and the darkside tempts me a little more. Where is the light? save me from the dark forces oh light!!!!!!!!!!

Interest raised now a keeper is on board, gives us hope for the rest of the morning. Wind has picked up and running with the incoming tide, makes for quick drifting and a little lumpy, still we are here and we persevere.

Mikes on again, woohoo, a nice fish, fels like some weight in it. Agfetr a couple of minutes he's dropped....... bummer....still the darkside strengthens its grip again.

We both have several hits, a couple of hooks ups and bust offs on what feels like nice fish.

Mike flicks again...... hit.......ON....you bewdy, fels a little better. Winding, winding...... right colour. Nice little squire in the boat, at 35 and a tad just makes it.....my first ever legal squire, in the boat....................you lose fishy I win...............hahahaha. ;DOh no......I am gone, the darkside has won.....another fisho converted to the dark realms of SP fishing.

A few more drifts and flicks, and we decide a hot shower and coffee is looking damn good. Wet and breezy morning, but still, just being on the water is great. ;D

Mr T, a big thanks for imparting your much treasured experience and knowledge to me. great company, good fishing, and I learnt alot. And you converted me you bugger....looks like I am doomed to visit the shops and stock up on Sp's, a good reel and line......... ;D

Now I just have to get you out next time and get your first Mac to complete the deal.... ;D

here's the morning, taken about 6am I think.

Mate, the stinky stuff will always have a place on the boat, but I am now convinced there is a place for SP's on the boat aswell. Just have to buy a decent rod and reel and line, and stock up on some SP's.

Top report. I see it also has you in it's grip. There is no escaping you know. A trip to the tackle shop inevitably ends in a purchase.

Thanks Mike! A wet and miserable morning but hey, it was worth a shot!

It was probably the toughest conditions i've fished at Wello! Just to keep the slack off the line, i felt like i was spinning slugs. It was blowing with the tide and we were moving pretty rapidly! Never covered so much ground out there before. Still, congrat's to Mike on his first SP Squire and may there be many more to come! I look forward to the return bout on Mackarel...

Take Care T

Welcome to the darkside Mike! Hope you got enough cash to fund your new addiction :P

A very entertaining read and a good catch of squire. May it be the start of many more fish from the darkside [smiley=evilgrin.gif]

Well done MM and T1

Another member of AF reckons the rough conditions turn the fish on, but wind and tide in the same direction must have been tough going.

I can only recommend you stick to the placcies and Jig Heads T1 and regulars to wello will recommend - and stay strong in resisting anything else!!! Or too many types of plastics to buy you will. ;D ;D
