Headed out with a mate today to have a crack at some bream started off like normal with the normal size bream caught around the 27cm marks then i got a few moses pearch my mate scored a nice little gt and then the next cast after scored a nice 39cm cod then i put a cast in close to the jetty as soon as it hit the water zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz snap into the pylon i knew right away it was a red bastard and did not have a chance on 4 pound braid and 8 pound leader oh well you cant catch em all after that it got a bit quiet until it got a bit darker and then i scored a nice lizard around the 65cm mark followed by a nise sized barracuda that was my first one for around the inshore gold coast area, then suddenly to my right about 50 metres away the water was chopping up every were there was bait beening smashed none stop i quickly motored the electric over there and first cast hooked a nice fish it was down deep thumping hard with lots of weight i was thinking a good size cod or mabye even a jew and my 4 pound bream gear was about to explode then snap i had lost it i was so angry so after that i chucked a popper on and caught about 4-5 40-45cm big eye trevs it got a bit quuiet until my mate hooked up and he was on to a decents fish it was running up and down the rocks like it was looking for some were to hide and thats when i called it for a jack 5 mins later on the 4 pound gear up pops mr jack i looked for the net and of course it was left at home so he steadily steered the jack into my hands and grabed it and hang on he measured 55cm but was not a very fat fish my mate was stoked to catch that sort of fish on 4 pound and gear and after a quick few photos was released to live a happy life.

Gulps certainly seem to be the way to go these days. They are mentioned in so many successful reports. I'm still getting my head around all the different sizes, styles and colours.

Sounds like an awesome session, with plenty of good fish to be had.
Your mate must be a very lucky man to get a jack of that size in on 4lb gear!

Cheers
