Hit mud yesterday afternoon in the former fungus four five five. It was my first trip out in the bay in my new boat and I really didn't know what to expect. I've fished the bay beacons with JOM, but thats pretty much where my bay fishing experience ends.

I knew lots of Ausfishers do well out at mud so the plan was to sound round mud and to throw some plastics at likely looking structure.

I found a nice looking pinacle on the south eastern side which i marked with my GPS, we then did a drift over the mark around 5 or so times.

Managed to pick up 2 squire and a bream (3" pumpkinseed gulp grub on 2/0 1/12) , with the other two crewmembers having no luck. All fish went around 30cm - too small for the table.

Was a nice afternoon - can't wait to have another go and hopefully find some larger fish.

Good to see your out and about in the bay buddy. Never fished mud but sounds like a good place to start.

Next time i'll be passing you at the M8 beacon in the northern bay? ;)

Oddbudman,

What depth were you fishing? I guess you were shallow, I have yet to catch a bream at mud. You are on the right track, and now you have been there and have a GPS ( I presume), follow the same route but at 1st light, even just before 1st light. You might come home with a legal fish. ;)

The tide was pretty low when i was out there and i was fishing marks between 12-15ft.

Not too bummed about not getting onto any beasts as I had no gps marks to try and no idea even what side of mud fishes best. 30cm Squire still pull pretty good - they just run out of juice a little early on ;)

It sure was a different experience to my regular estuary and offshore fishin missions- can't wait for the next trip.
