went for a throw at coomera yesterday arvo, caught some herring and managed to get a nice 30cm fat bream, plenty of herring and poddies swimming around in the estuaries out there at the moment with some massive bait schools along the edges with some big fish following and hitting them. plenty of surface action going on but wasnt set up for the lures.
hers is the pic.

Good one Geoff, your certanly putting in some hours lately. I went out Sat nite near the railway bridge and got a 30 cm bream too, tho not as fat as yours.
Also got a monster catfish, wieghed in at 3.5kg :o Pulled me all over the river, the adrenalin was pumping, I was having joyful thoughts about jew or tailor, and then bloody vermin comes up >:(
I put a knife thru his head before I chucked him back. We wont be catching him again. I was too embarressed to take a pic and post it here :-[
Catch ya soon.

Nice goin Gecko ;)
Killing fish for no reason then not using them sure says alot about a person.
It gave you a good fight the least you could do is throw it back. >:(
Just because you have no use for it doesn't mean it isn't an important part of the environment.

Jees, Im copping a bit of flak for that?? No probs, I seek to be an educated fisherman and do the right thing. Id read in other threads here that spiking them was the right thing to do. Something about making a donation to the food chain is in the best interest of the ecology....
Sorry to hijack your thread geoff! Maybe we should start a new catfish thread if someone feels strongly about it.
I dont seek to kill for pleasure, and I release anything I dont eat. I thought I was doing the right thing, honestly. OK, so can someone please enlighten me on the proper ettiquitte for catfish?
cheers

Keep em for pot bait if you have a freezer. They generally do a good job and return a good feed of Muddies if there are any around. Cheers !!!

Yeah what is the right thing to do with Catfish?
Andrew,
they're edible. if your hungry for a feed, you'll eat anything. They taste a lot better than carp. The trick is to scrub the slime off the skin and wrap in foil for baking. then when the foil is pulled back, it will take the skin with it leaving a nice white flesh. squeeze some lemon over and eat.
Maybe youv'e confused them with a noxious species. by the way, noxious species should be destroyed and disposed of on land as some are mouth brooders and may have a gob full of little ones.
Catfish are not a noxious species. Check your local regulations first.
Cheers, roo.
