Last week there were some late night runout tides, and following the full moon I had high hopes for a jack.
Me and a mate fished sp and were into fish straight away. We caught a number of small Gt's and my mate scored a few pan size flatties for tea. The Gt's were smashing our sp's and my mates 8lb line was getting worked. The trevs got bigger as the night wore on and it was great fun.
I hooked my biggest Gt and as I was fighting it my mate hooked a thumper which went straight under the bridge. After releasing my fish he was still having trouble. We couldn't figure out which side of the pylon the fish was hanging on. After a few more tense moments and a bit of harassing from me he pulled the fish out. He thought it was a gt and asked me to pull it up but I knew it was a jack. He beached it to where I was waiting and after a few pics it went back. At 49cm it was his PB jack and he was happy as. His leader was absolutely munched from the pylon....lucky bugger ::)
We used a mix of sp including berkley 4" minnows, Manns Grubs, Atomic 3"shads and squidgy flick baits. Also had one of those new storm jig heads bend out on a really good fish. I threw the rest of the packet in the bin. >:(
Pete.
