Had a day off before the xmas break so I took my son and visiting mother in law out for a fish. The main aim was to find some spotties, but took TMIL to Harrys for a bit of fun on the little squire. Got there about 5:30 AM and pulled in a few of the 25-35cm squire, which is OK for a visitor. BUT the highlight was watching the bloke 25-30metres away from us pull in 2 snapper (not squire), a schoolie and 2 squire about 45 cm !!!! plus as we got there he was loading a big fish into the cooler. It was like watching a best on ground performance. Obviously the pillies I was using weren't the breakfast for the day. :-?
If you (the bloke catching them all) are an Ausfisher show us the pictures.
Chased some spotties at the four red markers in the Rous but didn't get close to them. Nice day, no fish.

Gidday Mon,

from the other reports it was a great day out there today. Too bad you didn't have what was on their menu. Was the other guy drifting or anchored? ::) ::)

This time last year, Harries put on an excellent feed of snapper for me and 2 mates, we bagged out on snapper from 49-75cm, drifting zoom baby bass plastics over the reef. this all happened in daylight hours between 6-11am.

Haven't been out there to give it ago this year, the spotties have been behaving well!! ;)

Scalem, he was anchored up, same spot for about 1 1/5 hours. But the other guys in a tinnie were drifting, as close as they could to him!! :P

All this talk of Snapper has me revved up for the weekend!!!!!!! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....

Sharpening those jigheads, oiling those reels, marinating the burley, sniffing those bait fillets, fueling the boat...

It wasn't me but I reckon that I saw you there. I spent a bit of time chasing birds around the north and east of Peel with no success and then went to give Harry's a go but only caught baby squire.

Hey MON

Forgot to add, i'd say your problem was the humble Pillie - an allround bait but when specifically targeting fish like Snapp's, you need to be a bit more enticing... Try flesh baits next time like Mullet and also Squid.
