Very Economical 4wd

Hi everyone im still looking to buy my first 4wd, my work situation might change soon, so i need a very economical 4wd. ill be doing about 1100km per week.
My preference would be a hilux dual cab, or a 80 series landcruiser. i need a car with space for family.

Im leaning towards diesel, but will consider a petrol motor with lpg, but dont know how landcruisers or hiluxs go with fuel economy on petrol or lpg. lpg would be cheaper to run but dont how how many km to a tank i could get?

what economy can i get from diesel.
i have 25k to spend.

Get the diesel cruiser. The hilux is good but has no guts.
If you don't want the turbo and can live with the basics a late DX cruiser ex gov for that money will get about 11 kml.
Plenty of yards specialise in this sort of stuff.

thanks reel hard ive pretty much made up my mind, wanting an 80 series landcruiser preferably tubo diesel, Hate gutless cars. Just not sure where to look for a good deal, what sort of government auctions? im in vic.

You will just have to start looking around to find an 80 in good shape.
If you try the trading post you might find one that will be traded if not sold private. This is where you can get a good deal sometimes.

You can have a look a Jupps and Fowles auctions. Don't forget that most government vehicles are sold unregistered so on top of auction price you pay for rwc, any mechanical repairs required, plates. rego and stamp duty.

Usually they also have no accessories ie bullbar wide wheels flares etc.

You can check out fowles on there web site to see what is coming up.

The government vehicles are usually very basic. Probably non-turbo.
