Any information appreciated.

Scubapro,
According to factory supplied info Nissan Pathfinder T/D $44490 ($47990)for ST or $48990 ($51990)for STL. (Automatic prices) Has 128Kw & 403Nm, tow ball weight of 300kg and max towing capacity of 3000kg.

Pajero T/D $49690 ($52690) for GLX, $54890 ($57890) for GLS and $66990 (Auto only) for the EXCEED. Has 121Kw & 373Nm, tow ball weight of 250kg and max towing capacity of 2500kg.

If it were me I would seriously look at new Pathfinder - less expensive, more power, torque and greater towing capacity. Pajero has low slung radiator that could easily be damaged.

Also the new Patherfinder platform & running gear will be basis for new Nissan Navara Utes so spares easy to come by.

Just my opinion

If you can get a hand on the latest RACQ mag it has a write up on the Pathfinder,Pajero, prado.

WARNING though this is on petrol motors but price and fuel details were very interesting.

I've just been through this.. know what you’re going through. I ended up with the prado in the end. I found the pathfinder a great package but there isn't a bullbar for it as yet that is compatible with the airbags and Nissan couldn't tell me when it would be available. The other thing that turned me away from the pathfinder is teething problems with new models.... always best to give them a year to weed them out.

Any reason why you have limited yourself to the Pajero and Pathfinder?
If there is, I would recommend the Nissan. But that's a fully bias opinion of the love I have for Pajero's.
Are you looking at petrol or diseasel? Auto or manual. All these things need to be factored in especially if you are going to be towing with it. What weight is the towed object?

Thanks Guys,

I am looking at the diesel Platinum Model in automatic. I have a 492F Signature to tow.

I have driven the Prado as well but still prefer the Pajero, slightly noiser engine than the Pathy but the Pajero feels better. The drivers seat is fully adjustable whereas the Pathy is not, Paj has a bigger capacity engine 3.2 compared to 2.5 even though the Pathy has a little more HP & a lot more torgue but nothing a Safari chip cannot fix.

pathfinders are quite low ground clearance and are not as good offroad as pajero

I haven't been blessed enough to do too many trips offroad as yet with the new Pathy. But of the 4 or 5 that I have done, I would beg to differ that the Pajero is better off road. I've seen them get hung up well before the Pathy did. I am neither a Nissan or a Mitsubishi fan, but my choice would be the Pathy.

Scubapro, by the sounds of it, you are trying to convince yourself. There's only you and NMK that are leaning towards the Pajero.

Good luck with your choices, hope all goes well.

Thats twice this weekend I have heard that the Pathy will be the basis for the new Navara . Does this mean they are going to downsize the Navara diesel to only 2.5 litre from the present 3.0 turbo ? :( :( Heard anything .

why diesel when both the Pathfinder and Pajero have great petrol motors?

Go the Pajero, I tow a 493F with my D.I.D and you dont even know its there. Its great on fuel and unless your looking to go extreme rock crawling its a very capable off-roader. Also the 5 speed auto is a dream to tow with, and you get a ten year warranty. But thats just my opinion ;)
