Steer clear of series 1 3l turbo diesel patrols - they have a nasty habit of going BANG :o Also beware of manuals - 5th gear is weak and does not like towing, also known for going BANG :o

Other than that they are a heavy duty truck good for towing pretty good mileage between 12-15l/100 parts are dear but what can you do ::)

Cheers

heaps of power and get under 10l per 100km.

NIssan Navara 3ltr T/diesel. ( 2002 )

Fuel economy , just over 10.5l/100k's empty. Towing 2 ton of boat she gets 17l/100k's.

Towing capacity, 3 ton, power 110KW and 4,987,098 Neuton meters of Grunt............. ;D

As for the Patrols, mmmmm cannot comment, proibably worse fuel economy as they are much heavier, but still have the same running gear.

Banging turbos and gears............. ?

Sure, drive a turbo at 4000rpm non stop from Darwin to the Alice and you'll probably blow the thing, towing 2 ton of boat in 5th gear at under 2500rpm, will also create a problem.

BTW she has LSD front and rear.

What was the question again ? ;D :)

OH, parts and maintenance.

Parts is ALL 4 x 4's are dear as poison.

Maintenance is standard, oil filter and oil every 5,000k's ( $30 filter and 7.5ltrs of oil ) Oil can be obtained for around $85 / 20ltr drum.

Also the fuel and air filters every 6 mths and the injector cleaner will help.

Good hot spark plugs and always steam clean the glove box after weekend use.......................................... :-X

Vertico,

I tow my 5.2m Formosa Centre Console with a Dual Cab Navara 3ltr TD and it tows fine.
Am getting around 10ltr/100 ks empty combined city/hi-way driving.
In my opinion tows better than the Ford BA ute I used to own and drinks less fuel :)

Damo

PS: and they are the best looking Dual Cab going around ;D

I have an 03 3litre turbo diesel Navara single cab ute which I tow my 1.8 tonne Kevlacat with. I'm very happy with it and tow the boat once a year up to Stanage bay from Brisbane, a 1700km round trip, 200ks of which is shitty dirt road. The turbo provides good torque and I rarely have to go down too many gears on hills etc. Around Brissy I get 650km to the tank however when towing the boat, with the turbo workin hard, it drops back to around 480km tank. If you wait til next year a new model Patrol/Navara diesel is comin out. This baby pumps out 400nm torque (similar to turbo diesel Crusier) with better economy than the current motor. Hope this helps,
Tiga

I have a 2003 turbo navara single cab and I can only get between 550 and 600 ks to a tank...Its had a vibration in it since new that was attended to by the dealer at least 5 times before a nissan rep looked at it and told them to exchange the springs with a new set and if that didn't work, bad luck...Well it didn't work so I forked out $1200 upgrading the suspension and now it's 95%.I sent the account to Nissan and then they told me my warranty was shot because of after market parts. After many phone calls and complaints they sent me a cheque for $300.00 as a good will gesture(there words). As you could guess I'm not real happy with Navara's or Nissan and am thinking of going back to a hilux....
