Try operating it without the hand piece, by shorting the terminals. I used one of those cheapo screwdrivers with a globe in the handle and an alligator clip on a wire (power tester?) to get me out of strife 'till I could stump up with the $100+ bucks needed to buy a hand piece. At least then you'll know if it's a problem with the winch or the hand piece.

Your solenoids are due for replacement. Common on most winches, it is not so much brand specific, it's where they are mounted.
There are two different kinds of solenoids you can get for them, one is quality, one isn't, check this before replacing.
Where is the solenoid pack mounted. The last place you want this is on the front of the vehicle. Here is where it cops it from the elements. If possible, mount it in the engine bay somewhere. Preferably closer to the front so that cables can be kept as short as possible.
Winches draw alot of power, around 400amps for a 9500lb winch at full pull, more than enough to melt cabling if not carefull. They also can't be fused without some drama, so if changing the mounting place, make sure cables aren't going to rub on anything.
If you are expecting to use it, or relying on it, don't take chances. temporary fixes are only for in the scrub to get you out of trouble, and it's a pain in the arse to fix or change them while under water in a creek you can't get out of, or pedantically wedged half way up a steep hill.

Hope this is of some help,
Corry

Be sure to get continuous cycle solenoids as well Bob.
And remember if it starts smoking something is wrong.
