Opinions on Pathfinder?

Will be in the market for a new vehicle later in the year. Looks like my budget will be the very low 40K mark. Main work will be towing boat, beach runs (generally without boat), very little serious offroading. Pathfinder seems to fit the bill, but not sure of their reputation. Any other makes/models be suitable? Bear in mind it will be auto so the manually challenged missus can drive it too.
