A few of you will know my ute - and how I had set it up for touring.

Driving down New Cleveland road on Friday, and a semi trailer pulled out of an intersection and did not see me.

Upshot is that I got collected along with my trailer and the whole lot spun around and rolled.

Surprisingly I wasn't hurt and there were no passengers.

I was looking forward to the upcoming Mt Mee trip, but now it looks like I'll be dinking Ben on the mountain bike if I come at all ;D

Don't know if she'll be written off or not, just sad to see her like that :'(

Bugger.

The Mt Mee trip can be accessed by 2WD. Well, the camping area can be.

I'll keep in touch about that one. I know it may hurt, but have you got any pics of the Hi-Lux ??????????

Thanks all,

Ian, don't think that I haven't thought about flogging the pi$$ out of my wife's car on the dirt ;D ;D ;D.

I'm sure life, my marriage and of course the car would never be the same again.

Haven't got any pics of the accident with the ute on it's side with a trailer wrapped around it, just a couple from the tow yard - can't post them from work though.

Insurance say that It'll be at least the end of this week before they decide if they will repair it or write it off, but being an '03 yota the agreed value is still $35k which = a lot of scope to repair.......

will keep you updated.

Cameron I am sorry to have read about your accident. If it is any consolation you are a lucky guy to have lived through it unscathed. Have seen accidents with less damage that have been fatalities. Cars can be replaced but not lives. I am sure that there will be someone who can take you to the Mt.Mee M&G and if worst comes to worse I can squeeze you in as I will have a seat spare so long as you don't mind the kids yacking your ears off. ::) Even if you get to Mt.Mee via 2wd vehicle you can still jump in with one of us and get to enjoy being thrown around on the tour. ;D Was nice meeting you by the way at the Border Ranges tour.

Regards,

Poodroo

Thanks for the thoughts and offers guys.

She's been towed to a panel beater's to be quoted.

The whole thought of dealing with insurance leaves a sour taste.

Does anyone know of individuals/companies who might act as advocates etc to see that the job is done right first time?

Apparently they won't even check the chassis to see if it's straight until all the body work is done??????
Do I have to accept a vehicle back with a straightened chassis?
Anyone work in this industry?

Unfortanately mate, you dont know how good your insurance company is until yu need it. I have had two major accidents, one insurance company took the LIBERTY of totally screwing me over, repairing a vehicle which in the repairers mind should have been comletely written off and it never drove the same so i sold it to a very dodgy car dealer who deserved to have a car like that in his yard. The second accident was nearly just as bad, but the insurance company, LUCKY I AM WITH THESE GUYS NOW, were fantastic.
There was some water damage to the electrics and could not gaurantee the repairs for life so the vehicle was written off, payout recieved very quickly with little or no effort on my behalf. For future reference when buying insurance, cheaper is not always better, talk to people, particularly those who have made a claim, again, you do not know how good you insurace in until yu need it! Good luck wth it all and lets hope for a smooth and hassle free claim.

Tks for the thoughts jewie.
I'm with one of the larger insurers - dosen't make them better.

Had confirmation that they will rebuild the ute today - chassis didn't need straightening. The panel shop is good to deal with, and will negotiate changing my styleside tray for a dropside, and some other changes so maybe it won't be all bad after all.

I was offered $800.00 for my builder's trailer which I promply requested they stick in their proverbials, but it will all get sorted eventually.

Might even be ready for the M&G??????

Just one more thing mate, the repairers can only do the work that the insurer has given them the go ahead to do. I had complications in the way of tyres were damaged in accident some parts were second handetc and when i hit up the repairer, they said they can only do the work which the insurer has said to do, if i have a problem which i had many, yu need to take it up with the insurance company, thats where my trouble started. They told me my tyres were 40% worn and would not replace with new ones, that was until i produced reciept that stated two new tyres were fitted to the front two days before the accident.
Just proceed with caution, and when you go to pick up the vehicle, check it out thouroughly and dont take it out of the yard unless you are happy with it. Again, nothing agaist the repairer, they want yur work, just need to watch the insurance crew. Good luck mate.

Thks for the info jewie, I have already requested that the car be towed to the nearest depot after repairs are complete so that my 'advocate' can check it out for me prior to delivery - I've had issues with vehicles before also, and don't have the expertise nor the inclination to argue with assessors.

Blackened - nah mate not me this time. If you head down new cleveland just past the last road on the right before wynnum rd you'll see a nice crescent shaped matching set of tyre marks with some scuffing on the opposite gutter - that'd be me. Truck was pulling out of the side street and didn't see me.

Hey I was just there today looking for a customer with warranty problems today. She lived on Matthew Way in Wakerley which is just off New Cleveland. I think I spotted where you had the prang. Hope the repairs go well for you Cameron.

Poodroo told me about your tussle with the truck before reading it here. I was a little shocked to tell you the truth, maybe because I have had a few people I know recently having accidents - and one fatality - so glad you're OK.

I guess you are possibly concerned about how the car will behave once you get it back, it may or may not be perfect but need a little settling in again. A mates car had an air hose fall off because of the impact or vibration, which was a real concern because the Turbo wasn't working. Found the hose after much looking, and presto!!

Might see you at Mt Mee all going well. I better get cracking soon if I am going.....
