this petition is for the benifit of all australians. it is in regrds to the depletion of our natural fish stocks. it is our hope that the gorvening bodies will realise the true implications of their polices and pass new laws to protect this valueble resource.

what is needed.

1: Nursery areas to be recognised and designated as marine sancuaries.

2: Reduce bag limits for recreational and proffesional fishermen alike.

Hi Mick,
As far as I can find out pros do not have size limit on their catch. I believe they can keep "anything they deem a saleable size". I was told the other day that now you can buy what they call an "Asian Mix". This is all undersized fish, . The bloke who told me about it says the "mix" he saw had three inch flathead and bream in it, evidently "bycatch". I am not being racist by calling this by this name. that is what they had it marked in the shop.

For many species of fish in Queensland, there are limits on the size of fish that can legally be caught. There are minimum legal size limits and also some maximum legal size limits.

Size limits are based on biological research into each species' reproductive cycles. Minimum size limits allow fish to spawn at least once and thereby to contribute to the growth of that species' population before capture. This is of the DPI's site for commercial fisherman..there is a link that says see recreational size limits....so I take it that it means the size limit is the same for both..gee if i saw a mix like that in a shop i would be ringing fisheries and asking...however times change...but i can remember at the markets where net men in boats would measure whiting, flathead ect at the wharves during weigh in and throw the under size in the river..bit late seeing they had been dead for a few hours...and yes I did contact the fisheries / health inspecter on duty there and yes the pros were fined...after a while some of them refused to let me unload their boats..i didnt mind LOL....

there are a lot of species that reach legal size before sexual maturity.
