Every time we put a line down on this wreck we get ratted to bits within seconds by little trevally, If you can keep yor bait down long enough you can pick up some nice Jewfish but the bait doesn't last long.
The best bait for the jewies is pilchard but it is the softest bait and the tevally mince it.

:)Jewmaster being out of Darwin you shouldnt have any problems accessing either good size Banana Prawns, Cuttlefish heads or squid.
I have found these three baits the best for the Black jew which i'm sure is what you chase up that neck of the woods??.
Why waste good Pillies?? especially if your gettin rattled by smaller fry??.

We normally have a whole cuttlefish or whole squid down, but they don't tend to get touched buy anything, out Dunddee way the cuttle fish work really well.

1. BIG!!Banana Prawns ;)
2.Golden Yorkies
3.Squid
4.Cuttlefish heads.
5.mullet fillets
6.Sprats or herring whichever name you prefer and the normall Yorkey.
Found all of the above work okay with the black Jewie with the Banna prawn outdoing all others.

The big Bananna prawns seem to be the go then, do you peel them first or use them as is.

When the pickers are about I use heads and wings. Have you given one the trevs a go as bait - strip bait, head and strip bait????

If you can catch areally small one before they form there spikes and blades they make good bait, but once they spikes, nothing seems to want to touch them. If you take a stripo ff, yu would pull up a piece of skin within a minute or 2. One decent trick we found was to pull out a 7 hook jig each and rip as many as p;ossible into the boat in say 5 minutes and than chop themup in to chunks and throw them overboard, the school tends to move on eating themselves. Not always effective and I don;t like wasting the fish.
They make a good alarm bell for large sharks, they all stop when something cruises in.

Use them unpeeled though i do pinch the tail off to stop the prawn from spinning or twisting arount the line in the run.
jack i havent used trevally for Jew but have used the big bludgers on occasions when run outa bait out wide and they do shine as bait :)(strips).
