There is more support today for a 10 per cent cap on ethanol, with Queensland's 176,000 power boat owners supporting the use of the bio-fuel.

Outboard engine distributors have conducted research which found no obvious impacts from 10 per cent ethanol, but testing of E20 blends revealed several performance and durability problems with marine engines.

The Boating Industry Association's Barry Hibberd says the bio-fuel provides obvious environmental benefits, but he has warned the Government against going beyond the 10 per cent cap.

"Our national body has accepted the research from the engine distributors and our position is we're quite happy to support the 10 per cent cap," he said.

"There's some technical problems if the blend is more than that. It's damage to seals, rubber components, plastic components which may cause fuel starvation."

Make that 175,999 Qld power boat owners, who else wasn't asked [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

says the bio-fuel provides obvious environmental benefits "environmental benefits" ??? so does that mean the extra land use (no doubt growers will want to maximize full production) will have environmental benefits or a case of give 1, take 1 overall result zero [smiley=shifty.gif]

Ya gotta be joking if the makers/growers of ethanol will be happy to sit on 10% ::)

10% ethanol means that fuel could also contain 10% water but even a little bit of water is 100% profit [smiley=shifty.gif]

But one of the real interesting things comes from the weight of the corn growing ethanol industry in the US, where if they actually used the fuel they supposedly push on everybody else then the industry would not be competitive. Makes ya wonder whose kidding who :-X

Cheers, Kerry.

Oh great :-X i just love it when money makes decissions that can affect me badly. As usuall any care or thought given toward motor owners with motors older than under warranty has been negated. Another question to ask the seller when buying second hand now "did you believe the marketing and actually use ethanol fuels"?? Who would answer yes to that when selling? The only motor that has a degree of safety from these fuels is one that is never turned off.
Hang on..... I am one of those Queenslanders and I didn't say agree, who voted for me??? Since when does an industry association actually put the consumer good above their members. 10% ethanol equals 10% more parts/engines sold I guess, gotta be good for the industry doesn't it.nq

There is damage at 10% if you can believe the Federal Enviroment Minister. See "Outboards & Ethanol" posted by me on this board. The BIAQ has not been diligent in their contact with the Federales on this issue or the Minister has been given the wrong drum by his own Department.
