There is more support today for a 10 per cent cap on ethanol, with Queensland's 176,000 power boat owners supporting the use of the bio-fuel.
Outboard engine distributors have conducted research which found no obvious impacts from 10 per cent ethanol, but testing of E20 blends revealed several performance and durability problems with marine engines.
The Boating Industry Association's Barry Hibberd says the bio-fuel provides obvious environmental benefits, but he has warned the Government against going beyond the 10 per cent cap.
"Our national body has accepted the research from the engine distributors and our position is we're quite happy to support the 10 per cent cap," he said.
"There's some technical problems if the blend is more than that. It's damage to seals, rubber components, plastic components which may cause fuel starvation."
