Professional Crabber problems

I was out at Mud Island the other day trying to get a feed of sand crabs together when this pro crabber came up and just about ran over me. He was driving like a maniack and when he got alongside he started abusing me. Called me everything under the sun and even threatened to kill me. He reckoned I was pinching his crabs, I didn't even have a crab in the boat and I told him so.

That wasn't good enough, then he went on to tell me to get my pots out of the area (in not so nice terms) and threatened me with a big lump of wood. He said that he owned the bay.

I couldn't beleive it. Talk about nuts.

Has anyone else run into him. He's only about 20 or so, blonde scruffy hair and a piercing in his tonge. I told the coppers and they seem to know who he is but I wont hold my breath for anything to be done.

All I will say is, I carry a metal pipe(reef pic fixer) and a dirty big gaff, other than that hav a nice day

You did the right thing fastboy, report him to the coppers and let them take care of him. Reporting his license number to fisheries might get him a little more attention than he wants as well.

Unfortunately there seems to be a higher ratio of BONEHEADS in the pro fisher community than else where. I was fishing from my canoe in the Tweed one afternoon, berlying up some gar for my mackeral bait collection, when along came a couple of pros. They decided they needed the fish I had berlyed up more than me, so they proceeded to run their net around me and told me I would be going for a swim if I didn't move. So I did, what could I do? I am the best part of 54kilos ringing wet.

Straddie had the right idea. Take down the number and report them to fisheries. Rec fishing is clearly on the front foot at present (wonder why??). The Labor party will announce 2 major rec fishing policies next week. Its major rec fishing policy in NSW and a second, upgraded, supplimentary policy just for QLD on the Qld central Coast on Tuesday...funny, they didn't even HAVE a rec fishing policy last election & now Qld is getting a special one just for them!! Hmmmm!

I had a similar run in with a charter boat while we were jigging some livies...Came in aggresively and told us to P.O.Q in front of his customers...Proffesional outfit that one...Hate him to place a curse or point the bone at us...Bloody witchdoctors...Put in a Marine Incedent Report on the mongrel :)

It would feel good to do something bad to him, but then that would make you as bad as him.

yeh mate ive got a crab licience and i know a lot of pros but theres no need for that unprovocked abuse. ya have every right to complain. just take down his numbers and we'll find out who he is. its amazing how word travels. id go out with all ya mates and drop every pot you can there, a good pro crabber would use his nollage and skills to catch a pay, maybe hes just not good enough. lol. hope you caught a few anyway...foxy
