Any reports? Townsville area.
Don't know if Townsville is similar to Airlie but they usually move into the clean estuaries in October and hang till January. Good numbers showing up here at present & picked up 5 nice fish in a couple of hours last Tuesday morning.
Live herrings, light lead and be patient.

A mate of mine caught one in the Bhole a week ago - pretty hit and miss there though. Halifax bay has some nice inshore spots for fingermark - Bay rock is well known for them this time of year. From 'well known' interpret everyone fishes it, so if you know of some isolated structure in that general area that isn't so easily found without GPS that is more likely to yield quality fish.
Also heard a few reports of the shoals just off Balgal yielding some quality fish.

They are caught in esturioes usually in mouths or deep water with rock shale bottom. Also caught outside creek mouths on reefs. They are similar to jacks can be caught jus about anywhere
Got 5 beauties on the last new moon on live squid between 9pm and midnight. Fished in about 90 feet of water with a rubble structured bottom. Best with less then 4 foot of run on the top of the tide because light sinkers are the go. If your catching Jew, Grunter or nannigai they should be nearby.
Oh, and you should be right in Townsville as I only caught these just down the road.
Something wrong with pic, I'll try again
Fingermark, and Jew, Grunter, Trev

Devocean,
Yeah caught them just off the pool filter where the creepy crawly has been feeding. NOT!
I don't think we stayed as long as we should of at the red C.M. They were definately there! We just got too excited because of the all the bites we were getting and tried other spots too early. I think the drop off area outside Thomas and Adelaide will be our best chance. Could be good for a dive if the coral spawn racks off. Those jackies will be all through the rock wall at this time of year.

No idea where 'Sally' is - want to be a bit more specific about the area that you want to fish?
Devocean,
If you build it they will come grasshopper.

Salamander reef off cape cleveland. There are some shoals nearby that are quite popular but have only recently heard of these containers. I may just have to follow somebody who regularly fishes the area one day.

Give the rockbars in the mouth of the Bhole a crack at night,i've been scoring some nice fingermark and grunter there of late..its a good spot for anyone with a smaller boat, there can be enough mozzies n miggies to carry you out of the boat at sunset however so don,t forget the "areogaurd" and watch out for the local mud Gecko population at the ramp......
