land based at Iluka

Hi Everyone.
Got a good break coming up. 10 days camping at Iluka. Are there any locals here who can give me some locations or any local knowledge at all. Im land based & love fishing the rocks, beaches.I'd love to land my first jewie, but would be grateful for any tips or help anyone can offer.

I live in the yamba area. Both the walls will be producing fish towards this time of year. Get yourself a bait jig and send it out deep and get a dozen or so live herring.
The best tide is the last half hour of the outgoing tide. If there is a jew in the area it will eat the herring. They're not as fussy as most people think and if its alive and in front of them they will eat it. Just make sure u find a suitable spot to gaff the fish before u hook up as its not easy to find a spot with a rampaging jew on the other end of the line.
The mullet have also started running so the jew should be not far behind them.

I walked around the front of Woody Head once and caught my first land based long tail. Back then it went 30 lb and on 12 lb line an Alvey and a pilchard was quite some fun. While I didnt catch any I understand its not uncommon to catch mackeral from the same spot.

We've pulled spotties to 5/6 kg off the front of the front of woody head and the bluff plus a few longtails. A longtail was taken on sat that went 23kg. Not a bad fish when it was caught spinning for tailor.
Darren would probably be the best guy to talk to as he's in town. But he may be in the other shop in yamba. Depends what day it is. He will send you in the right direction. Just be prepared for a few sore arms screaming runs.

Hi Rando.
About a month ago, while I was on holidays, I was catching fair size Tailor off the rock wall at the entrance to the river on the Iluka side.
Give it a go.
It can only get better from now on.
