View Full Version : For smoking fisher people!!!
Yesterday, we were out in the bay fishing. There were 2 dolphins frollicking around our boat. There were about a dozen boats in the vicinity, with other people enjoying the sight of the dolphins playing.
I was stunned to see the number of people fishing and smoking, then flicking their butts over the side. Do you people realize, if a dolphin sucks a butt in through their blow hole, they can die?? Go check out this link and think twice before u do this again!!!

Good point guys,
I am a smoker I normally carry a bucket as a bit of a bin on the boat.
This is to chuck any bait packets in and any other rubbish I have including my butts.
I would go as far to say that too many people think that the if a plastic bags flys out of the boat it becomes some else's problem.
Keep it clean......... As they say leave it better than when you found it.
AJ
Plastic bags No 1
Cigarette butts No 2
Plastic drinking straws No 3
are the top 3 Killers of marine
If you take it out, Bring it back with you.
Plastic 35mm film canisters with a little water in the bottom of them make
a great ash and butt container for traveling.

six pack rings are pretty nasty too.
I wish it could be more widely informed to non-fishing people - about the dangers of butts being flicked everywhere.

I am a smoker and yes i have , however i smoke rollies that contain no filters i also carry an ashtray in the form of a bottle all my rubbish comes back with me.
My point is that its the buts that are the problem as they do not break down, either way its no excuse to meaningly throw your cigs over the side buts or no buts its important for all rec fishers to remember.
I am sick of picking up floating bait bags a huge offender aside cig buts that cause floatation in turtles as the per the post on that dead turtle.

ok
I am one that clicked always. Never thought about the my action in regard to this as in the past I have gone crook at people for leaving there bait bags, rubbish ect and quite often find myself chasing other peoples rubbish around, picking it up and taking it home. So now I am a bloody hypocrit, thanks roz for making me see something in a different light. Funny thing is I always use the ashtray in the car
Go figger
I am about to go and purchase a stainless steel ashtray for my boat
cheers

Empty beer bottle is great for an ash tray. Really, if you go fishing there is so much trash to take home anyway that butts can easily fit in. The bait bag, coke bottle, newspaper, bottles. No need to litter really.

i dont smoke but take everything home with. It also doesnt hurt if you see a bag floating around pick it up. Dont take much to do. Bin ya Butts!!!!
Cheers
So this post has been read 272 times. Should I believe that 241 people dont smoke, since only 31 people have voted?? Or should I believe that there are a lot of people out there not game to admit they did the wrong thing?? I did not set out to embarrasss anyone, rather with the vain hope that next time I go fishing, I will see at least one less person flicking their butts over the side. I hope you are all thinking about this you smokers!!!
A few years ago yeah always with out a second thought [smiley=oops.gif] .But never any other rubbish bait bags etc.Now like the other guys here ,a coke bottle with a bit of coke in the bottom.I remember as a kid it was normal for most people(adults)to throw rubbish out the car window.Til the 'do the right thing' campaign came along. How things have changed. And for the better.

jugs, its a pity anyone smokes at all.i pick up engine (and dolfin) killers when i see them but i drew the line at a 80 cm ### brand T.V. that was floating tube up just east of st helena island a couple of weeks ago with power cord cut at box.no joke, the things you see on the water.
SNAFU.
ps will try and remember the butt thing when i have mate on board who is a filthy smoker.
Every time it rains thousands of butts and junk wash into creeks, rivers and the sea. Think before you chuck anything .
I just heard of a woman who saw a cigarette butt dropped in the gutter by a cafe patron. She picked it up and dropped it into the guys coffee ;D
Thats my kind of woman!
WOW!!!! 517 reads and only 52 smokers amongst you!!! What a cool crowd of people to know!! I hope u smokers are now reformed dolphin lovers- and yes, plastic bags and ring pulls (what cans have them now anyway??) are a danger to these beautiful animals as well, so DO THE RIGHT THING!!!
SNAFU, why didnt u pick up the telly??? That could do more damage to your boat than hitting a turtle!!!

(SNAFU said) ps will try and remember the butt thing when i have mate on board who is a filthy smoker. [smiley=angryfire.gif] Filthy smoker. ive had non smokers in the boat with me and they were not happy about having to smell the butts in the bucket i use for rubbish on the other side of the boat so they tiped it over the side. Filthy non-smoker if you ask me. [smiley=furious2.gif] smoking does not make me a filthy person, sorry for taking offence to your comment but i had to reply. needless to say that particular trip was cut shot
