Am interested in what people like to watch in regards to fishing. I know a lot of people will sit and watch anything remotely to do with fishing. But thinking back to that last program or movie you watched where you actually gained something out of it or really enjoyed it is what I'm after.

I forget what its called, but I keep coming back to that movie where they catch marlin from the rocks in NSW. Thats real mayhem. I love that film.

gogecko that is a movie called "marlin from the rocks" seen it many times its great. 1 of my all time favourites is "giant blacks and great white" chasing big black marlin from cairns and then great whites from SA.
best fishing thing ive watched recently was the "return of the mackerel" preiview by the GCBFC. its great. lots of great action and fishing being pulled in.

I'd like to see some of the Aushfishers own video fishing sessions. From memory Heath you posted a quickie of some of your gold coast fishing sessions: the fact that I like ACDC was a bonus too. ;)
Wouldn't mind taking my video camera out with a few of our well known Ausfishers ..... just happen to have video editing software programme, reckon I could make interesting DVD's. ::)
Cheers,

Recently saw Harro's movie where he was in Papaua New Guinea catching PNG Bass. That was a great show.
Classic Harro, with his fly undone, and dragging giant Bass out of the timber. Good viewing (the dragging Bass out of the timber stuff.....not the fly undone stuff......you have to be sooooo careful...)

Yes they are a couple of wallys, but I have found the ifish shows quite good and have picked up lots of little hints.
Mostly from Lee. He often explains what rig he is using and why, technique etc. Most other fishing shows seem more intrested in just showing them landing fish and not enough on how.

In terms of shows, I would have to say 'The ITM Fishing Show' from New Zealand. It can be streamed off the net.
In terms of videos, I like Greg Norman's black marlin fishing dvds from cairns, and a few others from up there. Best inshore dvd i've seen would have to be 'Fishing Wild in Weipa' by Damon Olsen and Aaron Concord.

Nothing in recent years goes close to the old series done by Ron Calcutt and the crew from Aust Angler. They showed fishermen fishing, not the commercialised retail driven "infomercials" passed off as fishing shows today.

No matter how many times I have seen it I can still come home from work and stick Harro's Underneath the Cape video in and still enjoy it. It is just like how we fish and where we fish out in the Trench. Some great people feature in it. Along with Harro the skipper is Bobby Jones and his deckie is Sparrow Denham, not to mention Dean Butler and cameos by Dennis Braid and Olga and Mick Mack. Got to follow Bobby Jones and the 51' Riv Fascination he now skippers in one afternoon last year off Cooktown then have a chat to him at the bowls club that night. A real old gentlemen fisher. Other than that I have a couple of home videos from various people made into DVDs that are pretty awesome and some of the US BASS Tournaments off pay TV I have taped are pretty fun to watch.

I loved Rex hunt fishing adventures, not so much the show itself, but when it starred bushy and starlo chasing fish it was unreal, those two caught some great fish.
Unfortunatley they stopped making it, but bushy and starlo kept on going and made the show 'Hooked on adventure' which im not sure if its showed in queensland or even made anymore?????

I don't get to see a lot of TV but I will relate what hooked me on fishing for life and also made me aware at an early age of other people's dreams and struggles in life.
Ernest Hemingway's "The Old man and The Sea". The movie which had Spencer Tracy playing the old man is a movie that has haunted me since my childhood. Absolutely beatiful and tragic. The Old Man is based on the character that used to skipper Hemmingways boat.
If you're gonna try and watch it, and I highly recommend it, don't read the end of the summary as it will spoil it for you. Part of the beauty of the film is that you have no idea of how it will end.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Old_Man_and_the_Sea#Summary
Remember that Hemmingway was a superb blue water fisher and helped put the sport centre stage, fishing out of Cuba. During WW11 he armed his sportsfishing boat and monitored german U Boat actrivity off Cuba. His real life exploits were as fascinating as his novels.

Hi
The ABC ran a series called GoFish Australia some time back it was 13 shows. It was narrated by John Mellion and starred all sorts of every day fishos. They travelled around Australia talking to fishos and going fishing with them.
Very funny at times with blokes getting their head stuck in breakwall rocks trying to find dropped fish.
Ran when Starlo was in his teens, Rex had hair and Harro was skinny
My deckie can be seen throwing the long rods we used to use at salmon and tailor in the beginning of each show. It is marvellous to she how she has changed, mind you she can still throw the long rods.
It would be good to see it re-run as we dont have a copy

I've got hold of some different jigging footage made by Japanese jiggers (I think),can't understand a word being said but some things don't need explaining,it makes for good watching.Would be great if the same thing was done on the serriola's of SE Queensland/Northern NSW.

i like the ifish mix
good music
two guys having fun without being wonkers (sorry willy)
background, locations, techniques etc
its commercial tv so there's gotta be pos
they took rex & improved the formula - ET loses me now with too much polish, voice over instead of live commentary & the feeling that gives (you can hear the boat gurgling etc)
i like AUSSIE location, technique (including talk of tides etc)
oh yeah & RATCHET
gatta have a screaming RATCHET - that gets the blood up.
